Bursts of orange flashed between trees, a hushed giggle swift to follow with each pause. Rose irises peeked from behind a spindled trunk, a heart beating hard enough to deafen delicate ears. The whisper of the woods did nothing to aid her focus, but suited well to mask the soggy depression of moss beneath her light steps.
Well out of sight, her Master was counting down - per usual. He had made a point to calculate the final number several times over - per usual. She believed herself to be quite adept at this game, as she was certain that she would be unable to find her own way home. Idid thrived in mediums such as this. Unnoticeable details He would commit to memory, never checking the same location twice. A reprieve for Him, likely. Few moments were that of peace, however little the patient monster may need.
The lava faerie thought the thought so rarely considered, and shifted her gaze upwards. A hole in a tree that was perfectly ordinary. The trunk wasn’t bigger, nor was the bark any darker. The leaves were not any more notable than the neighbouring branches. This enormous plant could not stand out if wanted to.
Branch by boring branch, Aivlynn fluttered to the opening in the bark. Just enough for her to barely slip in, she flattened her wings onto either side of her spine and wiggled until she was nestled within the ent. It was tight, but oddly comforting. Feeling grateful for her smaller frame, she peered out from her vantage point.
Grey. Everything she could see. The mist seemed thicker from higher up, discolouring every bit of the woods below. Each shadow was just a darker grey; beams from the minimal sunlight were a softer grey. Her colours would have been striking in this haze, but Idid will melt into the fog. Being caught was certainly not the worst thing that could occur, it often meant for fun to follow! That did not falter her guard, however.
For now, she stretched her wings and limbs to the best of her ability, settling into the most choice hiding spot she’s found yet… And waited.
