What made Lavinet choose purple for her hair color? And follow up, do you think she’d dye it any other colors in the future?

She chose that color because it’s her favorite color, and she also wanted to do something that wasn’t a “natural” hair color as a kind of statement of defiance against Norm sensibilities!

I could totally see her dyeing it other colors in the future!

So I’m confused about a few things regarding Lav and Pri. Does sleeping with Pri prevent us from having a relationship with Lav. Also is Pri a full RO with an ending and everything? Sorry if it’s been asked before, I couldn’t find it in the blog

In which Ras Thorne is absolutely and utterly tired of Lavinet Naveen's constant disapproval of her relationship with Prihine. Lavinet challenges her to a duel as a result.

“I don't think I approve of your dating my cousin,” Lavinet said rather suddenly in the midst of their card game.

“Well, I don't think I approve of your joining the Shepherds.” Ras retorted, as quickly as Lavinet had brought the subject up.

“I–beg your pardon?”

“Hm? Oh, I thought we were complaining about things we had no control over. Was I mistaken?”

Lavinet pursed her lips, not quite frowning down at her cards before finally looking up at Ras with a glint in her eye. “If you ask me, I don’t believe this is how a member of the Shepherds, much less the Hero of Haven, should behave. Fraternizing with a civilian, a noblewoman no less.”

Ras already felt her blood boiling, and so she closed her eyes as she took a deep breath. “You know, Lady Naveen, for someone so adamant about marrying only for love, you seem awfully keen on making sure your cousin falls in love with the right person.”

“Are you implying you’re not the right person?”

“Certainly not. Rather, I’m suggesting that you believe such.”

“And if that were the case?”

“Then I’d tell you what I told everyone else who sought to get between us.” Ras leaned in, lowering her cards and her voice. “Go fuck yourself.”

Lavinet had, evidently, had enough. She waited for Ras to recline in her chair before she tossed her cards down and got to her feet. She pulled a glove off her hand and threw it before Ras. A challenge to a duel.

“Ras Thorne, I am completely and utterly sick of your immature demeanor and vulgar attitude. I demand satisfaction in the form of a duel.”

Ras was, of course, far too happy to oblige, standing up from her chair as well. “Fine. When and where?”

“Tomorrow, Hightown.”

Ras snorted. So, that was her game. Challenge her to a duel in the Shepherds Compound, with as many recruits around as possible to get gossip going. Then, a duel between a noblewoman and a diminished in the most well-off area of Haven to get as many eyes on it as possible. It being in Hightown meant that there was a decent chance Prihine would witness it, too.

“We’ll discuss terms tomorrow, then.” Ras declared, before whipping around and marching off towards her quarters. She would need to be well-rested for this.

The following morning, Ras arrived at the discussed location within Hightown. A clearing in the center of the district, more than enough room to maneuver about.

Lavinet was sporting her Shepherds Uniform, her fair skin contrasting nicely against the black fabric. It only made sense, considering there was about to be a fight.

Ras, however, was, as usual, wearing her signature ‘casual’ attire; the orange and black waistcoat over a long sleeved white shirt tucked into black slacks.

Lavinet opened her mouth to speak, presumably to discuss the matter of terms for this duel, when a voice called out from the side. 

“Ras!” It was Prihine, standing amongst the gathered crowd. She beckoned her over, a command that Ras silently followed without protest. When she was close by, Prihine glared at her, her lips curled in a stiff pout.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“Putting an issue to rest, ain’t it obvious?”

“You’re about to make a scene is what you’re about to do!”

“A scene has already been made, my dear.” Ras shook her head. “I’m sick of her nonsense, Prihine. Every moment of everyday with her it’s the same damn thing. She thinks I’m not worthy of you or your time!”

“Since when have you cared what someone else thought about us together?” Prihine retorted.

“You didn’t care when I told you we couldn’t be together, you didn’t care when the paper started publishing stories about us, and you definitely didn’t seem to care about what anybody else thought as you were climbing my window for your nightly visits!”

There was a pause, and she leveled her gaze, eyes piercing into Ras. “So why does one more person matter so much to you?”

“I–” Leave it to her to cut straight into Ras. She really had no defense for that, instead looking off to the side as a blush formed across her face.

Prihine huffed. She made her point. “Don’t do this.”

Ras was torn. On one hand, she wasn’t going to stand for being told who she could or couldn’t show interest in; it was hard enough earning Prihine’s approval! And now she had to contest with her own damned cousin?

On the other hand, there was one person whose opinion Ras cared about, and she was currently scolding her for being an idiot and picking a fight with her potentially ridiculously influential cousin.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Prihine was the one talking sense into her! She was usually the voice of reason which calmed her beloved down, this was definitely new to her.

A huff, then a groan, as Ras threw her head back. “Ugh!” She brought her head forward again and met Prihine’s eyes. “...Is that really what you want? I can’t imagine this’ll do well for either of our reputations.”

Prihine sniffed, looking away with a stiff turn of her head. “It’ll be easy enough to recover. Besides, I consider you worthy of my time now. If that’s not enough for you, well, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be.”

Ras sighed, slumping her shoulders slightly. “...Fine.”

“Good.”

With that, she turned on her heels and marched right back where she came from, leaving Ras to go break the news to Lavinet.

As Ras approached, she spoke. “Change of plans, ‘Net. We ain't duelin’! Not t'day, at least.”

Lavinet blinked. “I—beg your pardon? You’re backing out now?”

“Yep! Prihine told me not ‘ta fight’cha else she’s gonna kick m’ass herself.” A shrug, as Ras reached into her waistcoat pocket and whipped out her heart shades before slapping them on her face and plastering that signature grin to her lips. “Alas! Some relationships jus’ ain’t meant ‘ta be!”

“That’s not ‘ta say I don’t appreciate th’effort an’ attention!” Ras continued, still grinning. “But what cain I say? My heart belongs to another!”

Lavinet was completely off-guard by Ras’ sudden shift in demeanor. She had no idea how to react to the sardonic tone that the other woman was displaying.

“But! Tell y’what!” Ras exclaimed as she took a step back, lifting both her arms and shooting a pair of finger guns at Lavinet. “Y’cain call it a win on your end! Savor this victory, girly, it’s th’only one I’ma give to ‘ya!”

Ras whipped around on her heels and made for where she last saw Prihine heading, if she was quick enough she might be able to catch up with her.

Lavinet began marching after Ras, suddenly grabbing her by the shoulder, turning her around to face her.

“You can’t just leave! I challenged you and—”

“And I told you to kick rocks.” Ras stated, her expression twisting into that of thunderous fury. “I’m not going to duel you today, as per the request of my beloved. Believe me, I want nothing more than to put you in your place with a good duel.

“I wouldn’t even have to use magic, that’s how fucking easy it’d be for me to put you on your ass.”

Ras leaned in, lowering her shades slightly just so Lavinet could see the furious blaze in Ras’ crimson eyes. “I would plant your face so hard into the dirt that it’d be the only thing you could taste for the next month.

“All for the sake of finally proving to you that I am worth Prihine’s hand and so much more. That I can take care of her just fine, our stations and societal niceties be damned.

“So if you really want that duel, you’re going to have to throw the first strike. Because not even my beloved can argue with self-defense. Otherwise,”

Ras pulled away, placing her shades back on her face properly and offering that same grin as before. “Toodles!”

With that, she whipped around again and sauntered off towards Prihine. Lavinet watched as she left with her mouth slightly agape, completely and utterly surprised at what had just transpired. She’d never seen Ras serious in any capacity, much less what she’d just displayed right there.

As someone with designated MCs for Red and Lavinet, my loves... I can't help but wonder, how would that double date go? It doesn't seem like they interact a lot in game or in the ask scenarios, so I'm curious

They don't really interact that much on their own, but in a double-date setting, they'd do very well! They're both very emotionally-intelligent and socially-competent, and they do like each other, so in a double-date setting they'd talk a lot about the latest books (trading recommendations, since each reads a different genre than the other, but they're always interested in expanding beyond their comfort zone) and fashion trends and restaurants around Haven, and Lavinet would show a genuine interest in Red's work and engage with him attentively about his research, and Red would compliment and praise her a lot for what she's been doing since she joined the Shepherds and make her feel very seen! There's a lot of mutual respect there, and Lavinet genuinely thinks Red's the smartest and likable of the guy Shepherds (and also the one with the best fashion sense), while Red finds her impeccably pleasant and easy to get along with (unlike more combative or chaotic presences like Ayla or Chase, lol). They'd be very relaxed and comfortable with each other! Red reminds Lavinet of some of her calmer noble guy friends, like Clara's Penric, while Lavinet reminds Red of his sisters if they were calmer and nicer towards him, LOL. They both tend to be mediators/the one people go to with their troubles, so their personalities tend to mesh well! She gently chides him when he overworks himself or does something absent-minded, but not in a way that's really disruptive or condescending, and he treats her warmly but also like a normal person whom he really genuinely respects, which she really appreciates in a guy friend!

Hi Lena!! Hope ur well. Been drawing the antiquas of late since you have a nice post describing all reds sisters but I could not find if you have similar thoughts about lavinet’s half sisters!! 👯‍♀️ I love character families 🐁

Hi there, I'm doing well and I hope you are too! And thanks for asking about Camilla and Estora the Younger!

Camilla: the older of the two (so the middle child). A bit more serious and reserved than Estora, but still considered a bit "silly", just in a different way. Whereas Estora the Younger is more like Kitty or Lydia in Pride and Prejudice (giggly, flirtatious, bold, girlish), Camilla is similar to Amy in Little Women, frequently putting on sophisticated airs and a slightly haughty worldliness (a bit like r/iamverysmart) that isn't always fully convincing, which ironically makes people take her a bit less seriously. I wouldn't say she's snooty (she's never rude to people), just that she fashions herself to be a young woman of great knowledge and wit and takes herself a bit too seriously in the way that teenagers can (like a sixteen-year-old looking around and declaring that he's single-handedly realized what's wrong with society and that an anarchist system would clearly be best), though she's growing out of that now that she's getting older and has been to finishing school. But she's also kind, perceptive, quiet, thoughtful, and is the most obedient and dutiful of the three daughters, a bit of a "daddy's girl" and always the one dutifully trying to make Galbert's life easier. (She's more of a rule-follower, so she doesn't share Lavinet's rebellious streak.) She's very artistically talented and is notably good at all of the hobbies young aristocratic women are expected to take up: painting, singing, drawing, embroidery, playing instruments, composing poetry... Her art is good enough to display in galleries and showings and parlors (without bribery on her family's part...), and she could probably become a renowned painter like Berthe Morisot one day! She adores Clara and idolizes her probably more than she does Lavinet, as she thinks Clara presents a true picture of what an accomplished, aristocratic noblewoman should look like, though of course she loves her older sister too! So far she shows no outward interest in courtship or romance, seeming more haughty or aloof, but I think that's just a front because she fears being outshone or rejected in the shadow of her beautiful older sister. Unbeknownst to her, she has plenty of young suitors who are petrified of approaching her because they worry they'll sound dumb because she's clearly well-read and witty, so they're frantically trying to read the latest novels to have conversational material with her, like they're studying for a final exam LOL. Prior to Lavinet leaving Lockwood, Camilla was considered a bit idle/lazy/dreamy and just liked to sit around the house all day and read or plunk away at an instrument (unless her father needed help). Since Lavinet left, though, Clara has reported that she's thriving and is very interested in her new role of helping to govern Lockwood!

Camilla has dark or dirty blonde hair that falls to her mid-back (though she often has it styled in a coif or a bun in imitation of Clara) and dark eyes, which by Autarchy beauty standards was a very sought-after look, seeming sensuous and florid. Her eyes are sometimes described as heavy or sleepy but in an unintentionally inviting way? Her brows and lashes are also darker. Her coloring (hair and eye color) takes most after their mother, Estora the Elder, but Estora the Younger's actual features (face shape, bone structure, etc.) resemble their mother more!

Estora: Estora's actually silly and is frequently described as a "chit" by older relatives (a ditzy, giggly, overly-precocious young woman whose wittiness and silliness and snarky comments is charming when she's a kid, but less so as she gets older). She's the most frivolous of the sisters and isn't particularly passionate about anything except shopping and clothes and fashion and accessories, which she hoards like treasure. She thinks everything is a scream and laughs at everything, and is a very bubbly, excitable presence that people generally love having around (Lavinet slightly less so, because she finds Estora entirely too girlish and distracting). The life of the party and a source of lightness and laughter to most who behold her. She's enormously, effortlessly popular and people gravitate to her like bees to honey. Whereas Lavinet is more known for embodying Consortium beauty standards in the North (statuesque and curvaceous, with strong, patrician features), Estora the Younger is dainty, petite, and extremely, almost shockingly pretty as well as cute and delicate--an image she takes advantage of liberally. She enjoys getting boys to do things for her just because she can and she thinks it's funny. She's extremely socially perceptive--her understanding of "the Grand Illusion" and how to manipulate others as well as analyze social dynamics rivals Lavinet's--but she never lets that on, preferring to gallivant around town on various larks. And I do think she'd be a lot more dangerous if she learned how to not giggle helplessly at everything. I kind of think of her as Blest's version of a Valley Girl, she's constantly going LOL but in a charming, innocuous way! She's a big animal-lover and is known in the family for collecting various small cuddly pets (she has several kittens, puppies, rabbits, birds, etc...): a cunning suitor would win a way to her heart by this avenue. I actually think she and Prihine would have gotten along enormously well, they're both the youngest and the most similar in age, but Prihine always felt threatened by how effortlessly Estora could get people to like her and Estora never had any patience to get through Prihine's prickliness and temper. She can be a bit petulant at times, but never in any way that comes off as truly bratty or spoiled. Sometimes she says really inappropriate or tactless or blunt things to people because she can be a bit careless or thoughtless, but she usually gets away with it because she clearly doesn't do it on purpose or with malicious intent.

Estora the Younger is shorter than her two sisters and has very curly, pale gold or pale blonde hair that falls to around her shoulders and bright blue eyes. She has pert, more girlish features and bears more of a resemblance to Prihine!
