But at the same time, the case had come to a successful end, with the final potential victim recovering in hospital and the unsub in custody of local authorities. They had worked hard and deserved a break. 

As he made his way towards the elevator, he came up behind Jane and nudged her shoulder with his, smiling down at her. “I think we deserve to celebrate. You, me, shots at Joes? Thoughts?” He and Jane had worked together for a while now, and he considered her one of his closest friends. Frankly, he felt lucky to be able to work alongside a friend, rather than hating his colleagues like some people did.

They had been there for a few days now and Eva was already getting a little twitchy. She knew that this was a necessity, of course, she understood how dangerous the whole situation was, it was just that she was not great with the sudden change in her routine and her life. As she glanced over to where Theo sat, she felt equally bad for him. He was stuck there as much as she was, and she hardly imagined that looking after some rich young woman was his idea of a good or interesting job. 

“I’m sorry that you’ve been stuck with this. With me.” she began, breaking the silence as she closed her text book and pulled her hair out of the way into a bun. “I’m sure you didn’t sign up for ‘babysitting’ when you accepted your job.”

Isabella couldn’t deny that they had been good together. “I’ve been good.” she replied, nodding her head slightly. “Just... Work, you know? Not a lot else going on right now. And you? Have you been well?” There was a pause before she followed up with a question she was unsure if she wanted to hear the answer to, yet felt obliged to ask. “Have you found someone else?”
