So, after today’s UR, I’ve had to update my shipping goggles a bit; let me just collect a few thoughts. Kinda long, so under a readmore.
1) Chandra x Nissa (“Wildfire”): I want this so badly now you have no idea. Not only would it be fantastic representation, their chemistry in today’s UR was practically tangible and I see a lot of promise there that they could actually make good girlfriends. I also feel like today’s story gave me a much better feel for Nissa’s character: she’s a bit hesitant, socially-awkward, and feeling lost, but she’s very kind. Points in favor of this ship:
- WHAT IS COMING OUT OF MY FACE or Chandra cannot manage to speak to Nissa in coherent ways, but she tries, she really tries.
- Chandra going to ask Nissa for tips on how to stay calm because “I—I just thought that...You know that time on Zendikar, when our minds touched? I felt Zendikar's anger, right? The power of a whole world.Your world. And it was amazing. The most incredible thing ever. But behind Zendikar, behind the anger and the power, I felt you. Your mind. And it was real tranquil, you know? You kinda...centered me, I guess. You were all calm and connected-y.”
- Nissa, desperately trying to figure out what Chandra wants and freaking out when she realizes that she might have accidentally sent her running off with Liliana
- Nissa, when she realizes Chandra might be in trouble, girding up to go to a plane full of cities, just to “stand with her.”
These ladies. They are the gayest. I ship this 100%.
2) Gideon x Lavinia ( “Lawbuddies” (?) ), out of nowhere
- As @sundayswiththeilluminati put it, “she needs someone to complain to about Jace.”
- It’s nice to see Lavinia having someone to fuss over Jace with, who also cares about him but gets exasperated just the way she does
- Also, Gideon putting Lavinia on tap to tail Liliana? He definitely trusts her
- And the two of them being forced to work together because Jace can’t do all of it eeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE yes
- Can’t you just see them both sighing and tucking Jace into bed at his desk before shyly kissing each other good night? I can
3) Jace x Ral ( “Zeleren” )
Yeah, I mean, I haven’t changed my shipping that much; this is still definitely my OTP. It also works really well in combination with the previous two, and with ominous hints about Ravnica being in trouble, not to mention FOUR planeswalkers sharing a living space, it’s only a matter of time before Ral Zarek shows up again.
Just in case anyone’s forgotten, also:
A prickly, dense emotion rose in Ral, and he squeezed his lips together to keep it from spilling over. "Damn it, Jace, it's not the same," he said. He turned back to his vigil of the opposite alleyway, but he put a hand on Beleren's wrist and squeezed.
