This is an idea I just came up with, I hope you like it ✨✨

In my personal opinion, Lawrence actually used Buzz as a form of spiritual solace for his spiritual pursuits over the years. Imagine, he was alone on a spaceship filled with aliens, without his own kind, without social interaction, and even with star Command having labeled him a traitor.

Buzz was the only person who could possibly understand him, understand his obsession with the future, and understand his loneliness over the years. I don't think his mental state when he saw his son again was normal. :/
