IEC 61850 is an electrical substation standard promoted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). IEC 61850 provides many advantage over other protocols such as programming can be done independent of wiring, higher performance with more data exchange, or data is transmitted multiple times to avoid missing information.
