Today, I produced these atmospheric layered illustrations. Each one has a minimum of three layers and the theme parallel universe inspired a lot with creating my multi layered illustrations. I was inspired by the artist Brooks Salzwedel because he created these misty background with this trees and I love the colours he used in the background to give his work that boldness.
Firstly, we grabbed all of the equipment we needed which was tracing paper, cartridge paper, oil pastels, fine liner, images of trees and structures and watercolour. I started by choosing some images I want to include that Hannah had printed off for us to use to create our layered illustrations.
Once I chose my image which was a mountain I wanted to make this parallel universe feeling so I turned it upside down to create this floating island. I placed a piece of tracing paper over the mountain and began to trace making sure I add different mark making to add some more bold detail. I then traced each of the other structures making sure they lined up together and all layered up how I wanted it to look.
Then when I was happy with were my layered fitted and which order I liked the best I decided to add a background to my layered drawing. So I took some cartridge paper and using some neon pastels I did a sunset looking background. This background was inspired by Brooks Salzwedal. Once I stuck all the layers together including the background of the sunset or colours using masking tape. Then I stuck it to a light box with masking tape to take pictures of my design making sure you could see all of the visible layers.
After taking pictures, I decided to do so many photocopies of my work so that I can work back into using different medias such as paints, fine liner and oil pastels. I was doing to also collage back into some. Some of the photocopies I was going to just present nicely in my book as I love some of the photocopies without working back into them.
My favourite piece has to be first deign as I love the colour background and how the huge tree which is my last layer completes the design. As before I added the tree it just had a gap so I decided to add the tree on my first layer with the upside down mountain to give it more of the misty feeling and just to bring my work all together. To improve I would like to work back into them and try to see if I could create a even better design than before. I am going to use photoshop to edit my work to create different designs and to take my work even thither.
