"O'Toole had just formed a team called ‘The Lazarusians’. Our mascot, Lazarus, was a large plastic vulture, complete with Lazarusian cricket cap. Before each game, it was Peter’s idea that we all encircle Lazarus and give our team chant of “Lazarus, Lazarus, you flipping beaut”; only we didn’t say “flipping”! This was the typically theatrical and very naughty touch that Peter brought to everything. We won more games than we lost, but the main thing was to enjoy the game. Peter was always more interested in having fun than winning. Oddly enough, that was the winning formula!
