The spectrum of the rainbow is typically categorized into 7 colors (initially 5). Even just working with the basic 7 colors of the rainbow you can mix hundreds of colors. However, it's been determined that the human eye can see at least 100 individual colors within that spectrum. With more information scientists acknowledged these differentiations and also admit it is the individual's limitations to not be able to differentiate separate shades of colors, not a fact that those colors don't exist.
Just because there are 2 commonly represented categories of sexuality does not mean there are not many more on the spectrum. It just means we haven't learned to perceive or understand all the variations. Or maybe some people do not have the capacity, but that is their individual failing.
I like posting pictures of my octoling.
No, seriously. Things changed rather quickly when the case started getting worldwide attention.
“imprisons man for touching another man’s thigh” does not play well in the Thomas Cook travel offices.
What Can I Do-
I....never thought I’d say this about South Park...
but tonight’s episode validated them as showing a true, sincere, ups and downs, homosexual relationship. Like, is not Craig the best boyfriend ever? Seriously made me cry. Fucking beautiful.
I always thought they did it as a gag for that episode last season, but them not backing down makes me realize, again and again, this shows’ intentions are not to cause harm, only mock reality where needed (and not where needed).
Homosexuality & Anthropology
It is often asked, by those who wish to demonize same-sex relationships as “unnatural”: why do we have homosexual people in our society if they cannot reproduce?
The evidence indicates that homosexuality is a natural evolutionary development. I say this because it is ubiquitous appearing in every culture throughout time. We even see depictions of it on cave walls over 20,000 years old. Clearly then it cannot be merely a cultural anomaly.
Homosexuals must provide some sort of evolutionary benefit because it appears to be genetic for the most part and without such benefits this gene expression would have died out.
One theory is that it is useful in times of overpopulation. I don’t buy this one because for most of our history we were on the brink of extinction from underpopulation. Perhaps the roles that homosexuals play in society may provide clues. In almost every society male homosexuals take on the role of artists, musicians, storytellers, shamans, and entertainers. Some argue that creativity is just rechanneled sexual energy and that if you take a male sexuality and add to it a female sensitivity you get very creative people. Certainly, history would suggest that there is something to this.
Female homosexuals, lesbians, also play an important role historically. They have been strong leaders, warriors but also artists and spiritual leaders. The same is true of asexual women. In history and myth, these women take the role of healer, midwife, herb woman, seer, prophetess and magic user. There has always been this idea that when a woman merges with a man she gives up some portion of her power to the act of procreation. This is the “Lilith” hypothesis. Where a woman is not a mother she is free to channel this creative energy into other pursuits.
These are just theories, myth and legends. I guess the truth is I, or we, really don’t know for sure. Whatever the answer is one thing is for sure homosexuality is perfectly natural in our species. Remember in rat populations sex is for breeding only. However, in the higher primates, sex is about pair bonding, reduction of stress in the social group, establishing hierarchy and just plain pleasure. Sexuality in humans has a degree of complexity not found in other animals.
