darius knew from an early age that his life was not his own & it would never be so. he would always — first & foremost belong to his dragon, his other half, the answer to his his blood's song. after that, whatever was left of him belonged to his kingdom. his heritage. duty above all. he'd been raised to believe that & while there were days he found doubt & yearning in his heart, he'd long since accepted his fate for he knew it could be much worse & at least this way he could ensure vissai remained the beautiful kingdom it was.
as the crown prince of an old kingdom, he was responsible for his kingdom's longevity & survival, which included an heir & a beneficial marriage. suitors were not scarce, but darius' interest in meeting each & every single one of them surely was. due to his father's stubbornness in handing down the crown, darius had escaped his fate. so far. but today would mark another step towards losing himself in the hopes of protecting the people he loved. but darius would show himself in the best possible light & uphold the skywarden's unblemished reputation.
he stood up front in the great hall, clad in his white & golden ceremonial armor - a proud dragon adorning his chest, golden cuffs & a rather opulent pallium wound around his neck & back. his father thought it fitting to grant him a golden laurel wreath for the day - a symbol for the crown he'd wear in the future. his parents were present as well, of course - as was the royal guard. everybody was ready & waiting for the young ritrinc prince to arrive. when the heavy doors swung open to reveal their guests had arrived, darius placed a fist against his chest right above his heart & bowed, "welcome to vissai." he was quick to strive over after that, the prince's hand led astray so he could place his lips against the back of it.
"i am darius aurelius of skywarden, son of his majesty king alaric and heir to the throne. it is an honor to meet you, prince solomon."
