Quick drawing of René re-reading one of his childhood book.
Idea/update for revamping René. Retaking the idea of my sona from 2022-23 of an undead without a nose but adding a protistic, I decided to rework a little bit the physical condition of René. He was already wearing glasses to hide his glowing eyes but I felt it was still too much cliché of a vampire (not a bad thing if you do but when it's overdone). So I decided to revisit my inspiration from the Strain and the Knick. I do think it adds way more flair to his character and more ways to develop even more his misbelief.
Updating Rose's card
finally cleaned up his portrait with graphic storytelling (same I did for Dr. Hugo). It's difficult to put everything on the sides with making it visually appealing. Not perfect but for now it will do. Now I need to clean up his outfits.
Hi! I love seeing your art style evolve in Rene's vampire form and the lore for bug-like vampyres too! I had a few questions about the lore:
1. Is the crimson crown a flower?
2. Does Rene also gather blood for the queen vampyre or does he only gather blood to turn back to his human form?
Again, I love your art style, and I hope your summer is spooktacular!
Hi Anon! Glad you enjoy the tiny crumbs of my characters and worldbuilding so far! Thanks! To answer you question, yes the Crimson Crown is some-sort of flower/plant. It's been a while since I updated how it worked (2022) and probably need to revamp (no pun intended) on how it looks and work since I felt like it was a bit cliché. See below some images of ideas and concepts and plant inspirations.
One thing for sure is how this plant can also transforms other people into ''vampires'' by getting poked by its thorns, which spreads all over the forest and underground. Most of the people that are affected becomes mindless drones-type of zombie-plant with the only goal to bring blood to the ''Heart'' (Queen) of the nest. René is somehow the exception because of his sister's experiments (and probably another affliction) which altered his behavior but also his form (this part needs to be heavily rewritten to not make his sister solely a bad guy). However one idea that I had for a long time is that he keeps himself at bay by drinking the Crimson Crown diluted with animal blood in his flask, metaphorically bringing back his past addiction and hurting his self-confidence. A vicious circle and cruel comedy. The only time he would need human blood would probably be when he is fully transformed, which his cell needs to be replaced to perform a chrysalis (that's why he became the local undertaker). His body melts and is reformed inside the blood cocoon, with his exoskeleton remaining, which he has to burn so no one see what is happening. Usually the transformation is more painful than the shedding.
The story is still in limbo as I'm still rewriting a lot of things, but essentially the ''Queen'' in this version so far of the story is his sister, who has been infected with the plant when she started to experiment on it. Trying to find a cure to death but by doing so, doomed herself, her family and a whole village. (bonus below of some drawing and doodles)
Anyway thanks again for the ask and I hope you will also have a spooktacular summer as well! I can't wait for the Summerween events!
Cage up that bloody mosquito-man!!!

Spitballing some lore that has been sitting on a few years now about René when he was younger & just messing around with my art.
