I had such an amazing day yesterday going to six Dandenong Ranges Open Studios with MushroomxHead and Roslyn 🥰
Meeting and talking to other artists about their creations was so uplifting and makes my soul happy! Wandering into art spaces and being enamoured and inspired has me reminded of the types of organic and authentic experiences that I want to be immersed in!
ARTIST DETAILS BELOW:
✂️ 1st studio Polish paper cutting artist YOLA and DARIA. This talented artist cuts such delicate and intricate designs, we loved hearing about her art process and her stories about her life - we stayed for an hour just to chat to her and make a connection but easily could have stayed all day to hear more tales of her finding cigarette papers and discarded newspaper to do her craft with during a shortage during WW2!
🌿 2nd studio Leaf Studios which has an abundance of amazing artists! This was such a beautiful space, from the blooming arrangement of art in every nook and cranny to the magical creature roaming on the ceiling! I purchased a hand sculpted fly agaric fungi cap incense holder.
🛸 3rd studio was CreatureBoxAu who is an incredible sculptor with a glorious body of work that includes Star Wars and the How To Train Your Dragon Arena shows! In awe of her texture work and dynamic posing in her pieces!
🍄 4th studio was of Martha Iserman Art who does stunningly detailed botanical art and in particular we were enthralled by her fungi pieces. She also had a lovely studio cat! I bought several postcards of her botanical art for my altar.
💐 5th studio was Naturally Dyed which is where an artist does natural fiber dying with indigo and colours extracted from nature and captured in yarn. The ladies here were so welcoming and eager to share deeply with us. Seeing their blue dyed hands was like a ritual mark from their making. I bought four mini skeins to embroider with~
📚 Last but not least by any means was Joy Serwylo who did a book binding workshop for us! We each made several books by folding and sewing paper, it was an intimate and comfortable space to learn in, it felt much like Aziraphale's bookstore to me - so much warmth and so well lived in. We also admired some of her paper crafts! I would love to do a more in depth class on book binding with her one day, there is a magic to a book you make with your own hands!
