"Bigo - Leaf In The Wind" by TheRealBigo
With Love: Part 1
Written by Kat (Leif) with a few edits by me. Astairre sat in her usual spot, off to the edge of the typical social gatherings where she could watch the bustling of the Source in peace. As the world seemed to fall to peices around her, what with mordremoth and all, the citrus blossom paniced and retreated to solitude. The heroic bravado that the Verdance had passed on to her, seemed to have passed out of her all too quickly. She felt invisible most days, and some days this saddened her. Other days it brought her a sense of freedom no words could describe. She sat with her journal opened in her lap, a blank page staring back at her as she tapped her pencil idly. Today was quiet, not many people were out and about. The white sylvari listened to the serenity of the surrounding woods. The melody of song birds floating amidst the gentle rustling of leaves. What a wonderful day to be alone. Moments slid past, and occasionally her thoughts would be scribbled down in brief notes or amateur drawings. Suddenly, light foot steps approached, and Astairre peered over her shoulder with bored curiosity. Behind her stood a sylvari woman she had never seen before. She was slender, wearing light weighted clothes of soft pastel blues and grays. Her fronds were short and tamed leaves of dark blues and greens, her skin was a pale gray and her eyes were a vivid green, lighting up along with a brilliant yet bashful smile. "Hello." The stranger spoke, her tone sounding almost musical. Astairre stares back, her bored expression unchanging. "I don't know you." Astairre didn't even attempt to sound nice or welcoming. Her dark eyes studied the new comer, who blinked back in surprise at Astairre's mundane and blunt greeting. "If you're looking for the welcoming commity, they're off today. Someone might be in the offices below." Astairre motioned vaugely to one of the many small buildings down the hill before returning her attention back to her journal. "I'm, actually not here for any form of meeting or gathering." The other sylvari spoke, keeping her tone kind and chipper. "I'm actually looking for a friend of mine, Leifucius. Do you know him?" Astairre perked up and looked back at the other sylvari. Internally, she knew she responded too quickly and eagerly at the mention of her friend's name, and she mentally scolded herself for it. It was obvious by her reaction that not only did she know of Leif, but that she knew him well, and judging by the bright expression of the stranger there was no trying to hide this now obvious fact. "I do know him." Astairre answered in an awkward mumble, shifting her gaze elsewhere and pinching her lips into a flat line before any other emotion escaped. "Oh that is wonderful! Is he here? I'd very much like to see him!" The woman clasped her hands together and her sing-song tone expressed her joy and relief at this news. She bounded over to Astairre and sat down right next to her, her emerald eyes staring at the white-vari eagerly for an answer. Astairre stiffened, and then scooted a few inches to the side, making it evident that she was a believer in personal space and that this stranger was too close. "I... He hasn't been around in a while. I haven't seen him." Astairre looked away, nervous of the other woman's expressive reaction. "Oh... I see..." Just as Astairre predicted. Crushed, let down, jaded. At a quick glance she could tell the woman had just deflated, and was staring down at the grass in defeat. Astairre knew the feeling. Leif was her best friend, and even she never saw him. That alone was depressing for her, though she'd never admit that she missed him. That would be too emotional and desperate. "Yeah... Um. Well. Yes. He's not here." The white sylvari awkwardly blurted before gathering up her journal and rising to a stand. She looked down at the crushed stranger, who stared back in surprise. "Good luck in your search, or whatever it is you're doing." Astairre mumbled this as as spun on her toes and went to march away to another secluded place. Maybe her apartment, that had a lock on the door at least. "Wait!" The woman called, and Astairre froze. Why did she stop? She shoud have kept walking. But she already stopped so walking away would just be rude and cruel. Astairre stood like a statue as she debated how to react, and decided just to not turn around and look at the woman who more than likely had a pleading face and a request for her. She didn't want that. She just wanted to be left alone. "What... What is he's in trouble?" The woman asked, her voice speaking the words in just the right tone and tremble that they seemed to latch into Astairre's heart like fish hooks. What if he was in trouble? What if he was hurt? Astairre's mind raced with assumptions, and her empathy began to vibrate with anxious and worry. There were very few people the blossom held serious attatchment to lately, but Leif had always snagged a spot at the top of the list, even to her own annoyance. Astairre looked back at the woman, who mirrored her expression perfectly. "I mean, I haven't heard from him in weeks. Practically months." The stranger stepped forward, looking to the white flower with sad and questioning eyes. "He's prone to accidents and bad luck. Anyone who knows him knows that much. You haven't heard from him recently have you?" "N-No..." Astairre's heart raced. What if he was captured again? What if he was running for his life? Or wounded somewhere? What if he was dead? Even though her flesh was already snowy white, Astairre felt herself pale at the thought. No. He couldn't be... Her emotions whirled. "We need to find him." The woman pleaded, reaching out to take her hand in a gently clasp. Astairre looked down at their connected hands, knowing that she should yank herself away but feeling too numb with heart ache and worry to respond. Leif was in danger. He had to be. She looked up at the woman. "What should we do? We... I should get the others... They would--" "I know Leif." The woman interjected. "And I know he doesn't keep very many friends. I can tell by your body language that he means a great deal to you my dear, and he means that much to me. Bringing along a group of people who don't know him will more than likely distract us. We're his friends, and together we can figure out where he might be." A small part of Astairre's mind raised in suspicion. Go alone? With a stranger? That didn't sound right at all. But, she did have a point. Leif wasn't very social, and not a lot of people really seemed to care that he was gone... She looked over her shoulder towards the Source. Maybe Isendil or Vila... They were his friends too ri-- "Honey. The longer we wait, the less likely we'll be able to find him." The woman tugged on Astairre's arm, regaining her attention. Her deep green eyes stared deeply into Astairre's onyx gaze. This woman, something about her was very convincing. The sliver of suspicion rose again in the back of her mind, but her emotions riled and quickly discarded any hesitation. Strangely enough, Astairre had never really experienced such wild and untame emotions before... But she really did care for Leif. And she really was worried. "Okay." She finally replied, nodding to the stranger. "But I have no idea who you are..." "Deonia" The sylavri sung, her lips pulling back in a warm, welcoming, and somewhat unsettling smile. "But you can call me Dee." Now why did that name ring a bell...
