Phone refused to boot this morning even though it was fine last night so I went to the Apple Store on my lunch break... One of the Mac Geniuses at check-in performs some magic and gets my phone to boot up within 30 seconds of my arrival. Mac Genius: "Sometimes the phone just freezes. You know, it's good to turn your phone off at least once every two weeks. It needs a break!" Me: "I am so sorry. I feel like such an idiot." Mac Genius: "It's okay! Just think of this as an educational experience for you. Now you know how to do a hard reset!" FYI - iPhone hard reset = hold down the home button and power button at the same time for about 10 seconds.
