Day Two: Least Favorite Character(s)
It's a tie between Wang Yuanji and Diaochan.
My main issue with Yuanji is that she tries too hard. She's a walking anime trope that is supposedly "tsundere"-unless I'm missing the meaning of the trope, I don't see any signs of it, and see more signs actually displayed in people like Dian Wei of all people. But meh..
She's annoying and boring. Complains far too much-which I get to an extent, because she's so smart and capable, a lot is placed on her shoulders, and above all, she's just a little girl. Still, I find her annoying, and she really doesn't need to have her robotic face plastered everywhere, when there are better women in the series.
But I don't dislike Yuanji as much as I dislike Diaochan. Not by a mile.
Diaochan is a disgrace.
Here we have arguably one of the most strongest females in the ROTK novel. A woman so selfless and fearless that she's step in between the fiercest and most powerful men of her time; the tyrant Dong Zhuo, and the brutal Lu Bu. Using her looks, and her cunning mind, she's able to manipulate a rift between these two men, causing Lu Bu to ultimately kill Dong Zhuo. She knows she was dancing with danger, but she didn't give a single damn. Saving the Han, and doing her father's will was her top priory, and that is so admirable.
That's why the DW version(especially as of late), is such a goddamn disgrace.
Instead of a manipulative dancer, we have a prissy princess. A damsel in distress that can't even breathe without being near Lu Bu. Mind you, while she was Lu Bu's concubine, she wasn't noted to have loved Lu Bu(as far as I remember). In DW, she's pretty much his wife. Which DEFEATS HER ENTIRE PURPOSE. Though she still has her stage where she eliminates Dong Zhuo, it's flat. No manipulation, no reason beyond "I want to live happily ever after with Lu Bu" bullshit.
And her being perfectly ok with Boo-Boo eliminating the emperor and becoming emperor himself? WHEN IT WAS CLEAR HER MOTIVE WAS TO HELP THE HAN. Ugh....
I like ROTK Diaochan. In fact I think she's fantastic. It's DW Diaochan I have problems with.
