fatin never thought she needed "a person", hence the no strings attached hook ups and the "i dont get tight w girls" line.

leah only ever wanted a person (she thought it was gonna be j*ff (i refuse to say his name bc i dont want it to be in my predictive text) but that didn't turn out well).

fatin never realized she needed one until she met/got to know leah, and leah never knew what a healthy relationship was like until she met fatin.

and i feel like fatin has this "why be close w people if there's a huge chance that they'll leave u broken in the end? why go through all that trauma and stress and drama and heartache when you can just...not?" mentality, so she keeps herself occupied with the cello (most of the time against her own will) and parties and hookups just so that she can distract herself from the fact that she's lonely. and she fooled herself enough to convince herself that she isn't.

that is, until the island. the unsinkable 8 made her realize how having attachments to people isn't so bad. not every friendship or relationship will end in pain and heartbreak and loss (i mean, there's death but that's a given).

being IN love, though? that's what leah taught her.

but she doesn't know that yet.

headcanon ramble #2

inspired by this tweet.

it's 3am and leah and fatin are trying their best to stay awake.

(they didn't want the day to end, so they're trying their best to make the most out of it.

"isn't the day already over, though? it's 12: 13am."

"not if we don't sleep yet, it isn't.")

they talk about a variety of things–about their experiences on the island, about the shows they want to catch up on when things settle down, who the strongest avenger is, what they're going to tell the interviewers (leah says she doesn't want to entertain any of them. fatin, on the other hand...), and about the trial coming up. fatin says all these nice things to leah and comforts her and supports and encourages her like she has done ever since they've become friends on the island. leah turns to look at fatin. "why are you always so nice to me?"

"leah. i tease you like, every second of every day."

"you know what i mean."

"well why shouldn't i be?"

"fair."

fatin takes a deep breath. "okay. i can give you a whole speech about how you deserve all the good things in the world, but it's 3am and even if you keep saying you won't fall asleep i know damn well that you'll be snoring 5 minutes from now–"

"no i won't."

"–so what i will say is....it's because i love you." fatin turns to leah, who's struggling to keep her eyes open. fatin tries her hardest not to laugh.

"mmm...i love you too," leah mumbles, before drifting off to sleep.

fatin feels like her heart is gonna jump out of her chest because a) leah is so damn adorable and b) leah loves her back. the next days are going to be the most stressful and eventful days of their lives, but right now, all that matters is this: she loves leah. and leah–sweet, shy, genuine, kind, funny, understanding, smart, beautiful leah—loves her back.

"you didn't even make it to 5 minutes, you liar." fatin kisses leah's forehead. "goodnight. and for the record, i love you more."

headcanon ramble #4

unfinished continuation (?) of this post 

(if anyone would like to continue this pls do i don’t have enough braincells)

imagine them working on leah and fatin individually while also building their friendship and strengthening it and establishing the fact that they trust each other the most out of all the girls on the island and fatin defending leah from the girls and siding with her even when the other girls call her crazy.

fatin opens up to leah while they're seated by the beach and then we'll have a scene where leah is doing something completely normal and mundane and then fatin gets the oh moment and starts lowkey panicking and acting a bit odd around leah but leah is oblivious and dot notices and then asks fatin abt it and fatin denies it and then she keeps pining and yearning and then dot brings it up to her again while she's with her looking for food in the woods or smth and then fatin just explodes and rambles and it's the first time she admits her feelings to herself and then dot just listens and then comforts her in her own dot way (a parallel to 1x01) and thennn there's pining again 

one night, they’re both laying on the beach, laughing and joking around with each other. they both turn to look at each other at the same time and realize that they're inches away from kissing so they both stop laughing and then fatin clears her throat and is the first one to look away and then one of the girls jogs up to them and tells them that they found food or they found smth else or some other news that prompts both fatin and leah to get up. fatin stands up first and she's itching to offer her hand to leah so she can pull her up like she always does but she doesn't and instead wipes her palms on her pants and then leah gets up and then they both look at each other and give each other a small smile before running after whoever it is that went up to them (i'll say martha or rachel)
