Fanfic for Len~! (le-bapbunnehs)
It's been 5 years since you've last seen him. 5 years. How did he even remember you?
'You can do this, Len. Hwaiting!' you mentally said to yourself, adding a victorious fist pump as you re-checked your outfit for the 20th time yet so far. You wore a simply large, dressy trench coat and a pair of matching boots with a pair of netted leggings to go with it.
'Is this too much?' you kept asking yourself. 'Whatever, it'll have to do' you said, positioning your bangs to your liking. Finally, when you felt like you were ready to go, you checked your phone. 5:29pm it said. You let out a sigh when you realized that you had another half hour before you he was even going to pick you up.
Sitting on your bed, you lightly tossed your phone on your pillow and traced back your thoughts to that night he randomly called you asking you out on a small date. You smiled to yourself sheepishly as your cheeks showed a light tint of pink.
Deep in sleep, your phone vibrated underneath your pillow, waking you up completely dissatisfied. "Does this person have a death wish?" you said aloud as you checked the caller ID, also taking note that it was midnight and you were dead tired. It was a number you haven't seen before, but you went ahead and answered it anyways.
'Hello?' you tried to hide your anger in your voice, not sure if it was showing or not. You heard a somewhat deep chuckle through the other line before they spoke.
"Mm, is this Len?" they asked. By now you were fully awake and had your lamp next to your bedside already turned on, well aware that some creeper could have been lurking through your window.
"Depends, who is this?" you answered. The voice through the other line let out another stifled laugh. You waited, a little annoyed by the fact that this person who decided to call you had the nerve to actually even call you at midnight ruining your precious sleep, and by the fact that they still weren't answering your question.
"Okay, goodnight." you said. "W-wait!" the other yelled through the line.
"What?!" you said completely irritated now.
"You don't remember me?" he said. "Obviously not!" you yelled. After five minutes of you trying to cool down your temper as he tried to pull back past memories of you two, he finally just decided to ask you out on a small date.
"Saturday, 6:00 I'll come pick you up and we'll go to the cafe near the park we used to always play at, neh?" he asked. You felt yourself blush but replied back coolly.
"Neh neh. See you then. I'll text you my address. Now if you want me to look pretty, I'm going to sleep. Bye." you said, then quickly ended the call before spazzing out about your date with a guy you barely remember. You stayed until 2 that night digging through your old yearbooks before you finally remembered who he was.
You checked your phone again, only 5:36pm. You mentally facepalmed yourself for getting ready so early. Just then, your phone vibrated from your pillow and you rushed to pick it up, but ended up hitting the 'end' button on accident. This time you really did facepalm yourself just as your phone went off again. You calmly picked it up without even checking the caller ID and spoke. "Hello?" you said.
"Len? Hey, it's me. I'll be there in about 15 minutes!" he said. "Mm~." you replied before disconnecting the line and laying down on your bed. Truthfully though, he was already waiting outside of your house.
"Aigoo, you babo. Why did you come so early!?" he yelled at himself in satoori, ignoring the weird looks he was being given. Just then, the front door to your house opened as you were planning to go outside for some fresh air.
"Omo!" you jumped, causing him to jump too. "What're you doing here so early?" you asked him.
"O-oh. I just g-got here!" he stuttered. You raised a curious brow but let it pass. He politely walked you to his car and closed the door to the passenger side as you buckled yourself in while he made his way to the driver side. The drive to the park was uncomfortable, yet bearable.
After 10 minutes, the two of you arrived at the park and took a seat on a bench which had a nice view of almost everything. Kids were running around playing with the little snow that there was, and parents happily chased them around. "How about some hot chocolate, neh?" he asked you. "Mm~." you nodded and watched as he went across the street to the cafe, soon returning with two small drinks of hot chocolate in his hands. He kindly handed you one, and you accepted it with a warm smile.
"So, Daehyun-ah~." you said after taking a sip of the hot chocolate. "How've you been?"
He looked at the kids and answered you, "I've been okay. You?" he swung his head to your direction causing you to chuckle.
"Mm, I've been okay too." you nodded. You two talked for half an hour and went to the cafe to warm up and get some more hot chocolate as he shared stories about his family back in Busan and as you shared stories about your family too.
You watched him carefully as he took a sip of his hot chocolate, smiling at the little things you slowly came to realize that you never realized back when you two were younger. Like the fact that he had really, really pretty lips. And to top it all off, he slowly licked the cream off of his lips, making you look away and blush madly.
He smiled at how you reacted and then let out a sigh. "Len?"
"Neh?" you answered sort of concerned as you felt a sudden change in his mood. It seemed somewhat, sad? He looked you in the eyes and you saw sadness glistening in them. "Daehyun, what's wrong?" you asked completely worried.
He let out another sigh and put his cup of hot chocolate down. "I'm sorry." he said, confusing you. "Neh?" you said with a tilt of your head.
"I shouldn't have done this..." he looked down and played with his fingers a little. You knew there was something wrong, because as kids he would always play with his fingers if he was hiding something, or if something bad had happened.
"Daehyun, what's wrong?" you asked again. His eyes met yours and you noticed the moistness in them.
"I... I'm sorry." he said, then held up a finger indicating for you not to interrupt. You sat in your seat and bit your bottom lip waiting for what he had to say.
"I never should have done this.. I should have just left without even contacting you... But seeing that we were close friends, it just felt wrong to leave without saying goodbye. I'm sorry, Len. I really am." he looked down, and you saw a teardrop drop into his hand.
"W-what are you talking about?" you asked, not knowing how you should feel. Was this a joke? Because it wasn't funny.
He sighed deeply and spoke. "I have cancer."
Those three words that just came out of his mouth seemed to somehow shatter everything.
"I was guaranteed 5 more years to live... That's why I left. I.. I loved you, and I didn't want you to see me hurting." You should have blushed by his sudden confession but it seemed to hurt you more than you wanted it to.
"I was told a not too long ago that I had exactly one week left to live. I should be leaving any day now." he said and blinked away more tears. Finally he slowly stood up and smiled a small smile at you. "I'm sorry, Len. I'm sorry for lying to you, for leaving you, and for loving you." He pulled you up into a tight embrace and placed a light kiss on your cheek. "But I think it's time for me to go..." He patted your cheek and slipped a note inside your hand, then exited the cafe. You watched from inside as he drove away, your heart shattering within that moment.
Your feet dragged itself to the bench in the park where you two were previously, and looked around. You saw the swing that you two used to take turns pushing each other on, the slides that you would chase each other up no matter how many times you were told not to. You felt tears slide down your cheek as you remembered the day when Daehyun taught you how to climb the monkey bars, and as you saw the hill where you two used to always roll down on.
Remembering the note in your hand, you slowly opened it up, afraid of the contents inside. You carefully wiped your tears, and read the note, word by word.
"And when you're sad, eat cheesecake."
You laughed a little, but inside your heart hurt and you broke out into a sob. Holding the note close to your heart, you closed your eyes and hoped for time to stop. Instead, you felt a light tap on your shoulder. Quickly wiping your tears, you looked up and saw a man with blonde hair staring down at you.
"What is a beautiful lady like you doing out in the cold crying?" he said with a friendly smile. "Hi, I'm Yoo Youngjae."
aksdjlajsdkl mentally slapping myself for taking so long and making it so long. OTL. I didn't check for any mistakes, so sorry if there were any. Here you go Len~! Sorry if it sucked. D;
