Chapter 1

Samara jogs down the back alleys of Dresden, Germany, looking behind her frantically. They were close. The monsters. Beings with razor sharp teeth and long limbs that stick out like carnival stilts. She rounds the corner when suddenly she is pulled back. She stifles a scream.

“Don’t. Move.” A boy’s voice sounds behind her, clamping a hand over her mouth.

She huffs softly to let him know that she heard him but otherwise stays frozen. A beast runs by suddenly, galloping on all fours like a demonic bear. Samara’s eyes widen in shock. If she had been any slower, she would have been annihilated. She didn’t even hear it coming. How did he? Finally the boy unclamps his hand from her mouth. She turns to face him. He had a tall, lean frame, gorgeous blue eyes, and a wild tussle of chocolate brown hair.

“Thank you.” She whispers.

“I heard they were coming then saw you. Did you know it was tailing you?” He asks.

“No. I’m honestly shocked that you did. I’m glad you did, but still shocked.”

“I’m Jackson by the way.” He pipes up.

“Samara. Nice to meet you. Thanks again.”

“No problem. You traveling with anybody?” He questions.

“No. Just me.”

“Mind if I join you?”

“Not at all.”
