Although I have been visiting Silas for months now, I feel that I am no closer to understanding the nature of his existence than I was when I began. He is supremely intelligent, however, his experience as a sapient creature has been totally and completely different from those found on Earth -- or above Earth, for that matter. He is not aware of the existence of any others like him and has stated (through telepathic sharing, as previously discussed) that until he broke through into our dimension, he had never encountered another living creature. He remains as curious about me as I am about him.

Personal Research Log Entry #57
It seems that Silas has the ability to not only detect when I have entered The Aether, but also everything that I have with me or on my person when I do. Today, he stole several hard candies out of my lab coat pocket and ate them -- if you can call absorbing them through his skin 'eating' -- wrapper and all. He seemed to enjoy the wrappers as much as the candy. I told him that I am happy to share, but it is polite to ask first. He seems to learn social skills quite easily, but has difficulty upholding them when he is very curious or excited. We'll keep working on boundaries.
Supplemental: On the topic of eating, he greatly enjoys food but does not seem to need the nourishment it provides.
Personal Research Log Entry #58
Today, I asked Silas if he would let me examine him for my research. He complied quite eagerly when he learned it would involve me touching him extensively (as I expected, since he clearly enjoys touching and being touched.)
He is able to reshape his body into any configuration, but seems to default to a humanoid form, albeit with varying size and proportions. I am not sure if he does this for my comfort or for his own, but regardless -- while in humanoid form, his body has the outward appearance of functioning exactly like a human's would, without any of the underlying structures (organs, bones, etc.) -- much the same as my own body, although I am unsure if his skin is merely a membrane like mine, or if he is the same dough-like texture all the way through. Pressing on his skin does get increasingly difficult the harder I press, and he seems to have an excellent tolerance for pressure as well; even pressing with considerable strength did not harm him. He is, however... VERY ticklish in his humanoid form, especially in the "classic" spots. When he laughs from humor, his laughter is like a series of melodic hums -- but when he laughs from tickling, his laugh is squeaky, wheezy, and hiccupy. He enjoys me tickling him very much and seemed disappointed when I stopped.
It pains me to recall that he cried when I had to leave today, too; he wrapped his body entirely around me and would not let go for some time. I know that he is able to reach through the portals he creates into the lighthouse, but I am not sure what would happen if he remained outside The Aether for an extended period of time. I wish I could bring him with me. When I am sharing with him -- typically with my shirt off, since he greatly enjoys skin-contact and the more surface area touching, the clearer our communication is -- I can sense an unfathonably deep ocean of loneliness within him. He doesn't recall any others like him, but I feel very sure that whatever Silas is was not meant to be alone.
Personal Research Log Entry #59
Casper, Finn and I slept in The Aether tonight with Silas. I had never seen him so happy; some part of him was wrapped around some part of each of us for the entire night. Damon does not sleep, but he stayed outside the portal and watched over us while we slept. He is still cautious of Silas, but I think they are beginning to warm up to each other. If he is willing, I will try bringing Silas into the lighthouse for increasing periods of time until we know how long he can be outside The Aether. Either way, I'm not leaving him alone again.
