I found out for the first time, fairly recently that Luke Newton’s dad had appeared on Stars in Their Eyes and knowing that, I knew I had to find him!

However, even though I could narrow the search down to the 1995 contestants (thanks to an interview with Luke who mentioned this), I still couldn’t find him.

Then very recently, I came across another interview of Luke’s where he mentioned his dad appearing on said show but this time, he mentioned who his dad sang as and that he had won.

So after scouring the internet and YouTube, I have found him.

So, this is Lee Griffiths aka. Luke’s dad performing as Bobby Darin!

He appears at 27:48 and then at the very end of the video to sing them out!

Some thots

Time is ticking and soon we will be exhibiting at the market. Our audience are the natural denizens of the bootsale, the bargain-hunting masses, our people. But we’ll be inviting others to come. to see the art, and meanwhile get a glimpse of a part of their city from which they are insulated, the poor, the new arrivals, the fat kid getting chips stuffed into his face by ‘Feeder Mom’ (as we know her). Our artworks are all stealthed, hidden sparsely amongst hundreds of other stalls, some of which may look ‘curated’ - is this art? Is this? Few arty types will get to see all of the artworks hidden within this melange of stuff, some may not find any, but at least they’ll have come to the market, and hopefully grow to love it, as do we. Perhaps they’ll come again, perhaps, like us, they’ll try and lobby to keep this thriving social nexus alive, to save it from drowning in a sea of uncaring, profit-driven development that just sees the dollar and not the people. Perhaps.

Lee’s stall

So, I challenged myself to make a digital piece, that would still work within the framework of ‘selling’ something from a stall.  At the moment I am collecting material, images, audio recordings, video. I’ve designed a ‘stealth surveillance cycle helmet’ - people at the bootsale can be nervous of people filming, for a variety of reasons, but I think it’s really important to capture the place, the vibe, the demographic, so I intend to invade their privacy but for good, rather than evil. I’m also taking binaural recordings, these are made using mics placed inside the ear canal, to produce accurate ‘3D’ recordings, and give a real sense of space when compared to stereo recordings. All these and more will go towards creating a ‘virtual’ bootsale which you will be able to experience in the comfort of your own home.

The happenings at Celtic recently have really put me off supporting the Club. The board have gone against everything Celtic once stood for in the interest of profit. Like, who cares about the fans when money and things, right?

Why are Celtic supporting an openly racist, aggressive wee ned rather than their fans?

Why should the fans - who often stand up against racism etc - continue supporting Cetic and putting money into the Club just for them to continue giving our money to Lee Fuckin’ Griffiths?

Lennon said “I’ve already spoken to him about his responsibilities as a Celtic player and to be wary of things away from the park” when he signed Griffiths, after having previously said 2 years before that “any sign of any sort of racism against colour, religion, background will be an instant sackable offence”. Claiming he and Celtic have a “zero tolerance rule” against racial discrimination.

So why the fuck did Griffiths get fielded while Celtic and the police are currently investigating him for a racial offence? Zero tolerance policy my arse.

I’d rather have lost 3-2 than have him score for a club that I already have lost so much respect for.
