POINT BLANK (1967): Dream-like John Boorman thriller, based on a Donald Westlake novel, about ruthless crook Walker (Lee Marvin) seeking revenge on the partner (John Vernon) who betrayed him and left him for dead on Alcatraz Island. The plot is less interesting than the Nouvelle Vague visual style (some of which was apparently suggested by Marvin) and the implication that perhaps Walker didn't survive the original betrayal and has never actually left the island. The violence isn't graphic by modern standards, but it is quite brutal, and Marvin is an entirely convincing tough guy. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No. VERDICT: Up there with KISS ME DEADLY in the lexicon of latter-day film noir.
