Les Désespérés (avec) leeeeverett
Water having erased his recent memory, memory of his confrontation with Valjean and decision to kill himself, Inspector Javert woke up soaked on dry paved ground.
Unusual surroundings, certainly nowhere he'd ever been, of bright painted buildings labeled by signs in English, large black roads.
Firstly, he jumped to his feet and pondered why he was wet if there didn't appear to be an ocean or lake nearby. Adjusting his hat, he read the signs as best as he could; luckily, he'd studied English and could give words meaning once he sounded each one out.
Another thing, the abundance of large metal objects with windows and wheels, but not a cow or steed or donkey in sight to pull them.
No sign of people, either.
