For now this is done. I've got some steel box section to make a st Andrews cross for the leg vice. And a regular vice to attach to the end.

Workbench vice now installed. The st Andrews cross is set into channels in the chop and the leg. The face of the chop has also been lined with leather.
Some tweaking is going to be needed as the vice stiffens up once it has opened more than about 75mm. For now it's not a big problem.
