I PROMISE THUNDER IS NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER OF MY SERIES AND ALSO I HATE HIM
he has exactly 10% of the POV out of the six characters, isn’t even with the main group for the entire second and most of the third book, doesn’t have any main character perks, isn’t interesting in the slightest, his character is awful, he tells terrible jokes, his hair is the worst, bad things shall happen to him ALWAYS and he has the most trauma out of everyone until he figuratively DIES.

Ehehehehe so Timber’s kind of the main character, he’s the one that has a consistent point of view throughout the series because he’s the one that’s there for most of the main plot. He’s about 14 when the story begins, has lived a pretty normal life so far with his two siblings and parents on the coastline of Boot. He’s pretty goofy, lighthearted, but not really content with his life, wanting to do something that’ll make an impact.
Holly grew up with Timber, both living in the same village, being about the same age, and hanging out often, mostly due to her being his sister’s friend but they get along pretty well. She is pretty book-smart, knows a lot of random facts and can carry on a conversation about almost everything, though she doesn’t know a ton about any particular subject. She’s possibly the most mature out of the group, but doesn’t like to lead in the slightest. She also blames herself for literally anything bad that happens to them because she’s the one in the first place who volunteered to go and warn the Creeng which set them on this whole quest-thing and Timber & Thunder wouldn’t let her go alone, so she thinks it’s her fault if any of them gets hurt in any way.
Thunder is originally from Blob, having grown up there all of his life and not leaving the island until shortly before the events of the story. When he was 9 his town was burned to the ground by Ghost Camelean soldiers, leaving most of the residents dead including his parents. He had to raise his 2 year old sister from then on, living on the streets and fending for both of them. Because of these traumatic experiences (like having your town & people you know & family being burned alive in front of you), he has a mental illness called Memory Death, the effects being spacing out randomly and having to relive those experiences as if they were happening right in front of you for long periods of time. It didn’t start out as such a big deal but the periods of time continue to get longer and longer until eventually he won’t be able to come back to himself and will die. So he’s pretty much actively dying :D He also has violent nightmares and is an insomniac. However, you could barely tell any of these things just by looking at him, (although maybe you could, he does look a bit intense) he’s very friendly, joking around and burying those emotions deep down and seemingly very open about everything. He’s also the designated therapist of the group, a very good listener and is willing to share whatever advice he can give, although he can make witty and very unhelpful remarks frequently. About fifteen at the beginning of the story, he’s EXTREMELY overprotective, especially of those younger than him, and will do literally anything for those he cares for.
Sage spent most of her life in a cold, dark prison cell. She doesn’t remember much of her life before dank and darkness and cold, since she was taken when she was six, and doesn’t remember anything about her family. She doesn’t know why she’s imprisoned, but she suspects it is for something terrible that she’d done. Sage is an Evenessence, which means she can wield Magnik (like magic, but only pertaining to the mind). Well, she can’t now since black bands stop the magnik from flowing, but usually she’s able to transfer thoughts and messages from one person to another, like a messenger. She’s not the most powerful Evenessence ever, but she’s close to it. The youngest of the group (12), she’s very quiet and very very wary of people because she’s terrified they’ll use her power for evil.
Rock is the son of the Creeng (King) of Ghost Camel, the same Creeng who started attacking other islands 16 years ago. He, however, grew up on Blob because his mother fled there with him and his twin sister once Crow started attacking. Creen Cloud (their mother) never tried to hide who their father was, so Rock has known for his entire life that his father is the one invading all the other islands. Rock is very witty and sarcastic and a smart alic and very sure of his life and stable in who he thinks he is. He’s the oldest of the group (16), but he’s has no interest in being a leader.
Breeze grew up in an abusive household but now that she’s older (about 15) she mostly spends her time on the streets of her city or in a neighbor’s home. These neighbors are currently trying to get her out of her situation with her family and adopt her, but it’s slow progress. She is very grumpy and sarcastic and pretty much the “can do anything” person on the team. She’s a fierce fighter, good at most skills such as cooking or sewing, and has a strong moral compass. But really, she only joins the others because she gets something out of it.

Raven Sivolage, 15 years old, sister to Rock and daughter of Cring Crow and Creen Cloud.
This is BEFORE book 3 (when the Foe rises) so she isn’t devastated yet :D

Me: Poor Thunder, he never gets any sleep
Me: Thankfully once his memories are gone he won’t have nightmares about the Thing anymore and he won’t zone out. He’ll get sleep then

Ha ha my poor girl Sage I did not realize how mean i was being to her lol
She spends all her life up in the coldest part of Ghost Camel, her body used to the cold and any amount of warmth bothers her a bit, then in about two days without any warning she gets transported to the hottest part of Ladle where she can overheat quickly and now she hates the hot so much and it takes her forever to function properly and then she gets fire magnik and has heat burning inside her constantly with no escape from it.
So uh. sorry Sage lol
Every time I describe my main cast for Legacy of Cloud as “six teens” I think about Sage, who is not a teen yet but it’s much more work to say “five teenagers and an almost-teenager”
Finishing up the Sage chapter and noticed something kinda sad while I was writing the last couple sentences
Any other of my characters would’ve struggled & fought and would have to be restrained in some way. Even Tale, who’s probably the closest in character to her would at least have to be tied up. The others would probably have to either be in a ton of pain or out of it completely to react how Sage’s reacting.
Because she doesn’t fight. She lets it all happen to her. She watches as Thunder’s thrown overboard, curls up in a corner of the ship for most of the day and watches the sailors go about their business. She does as she’s told when a man tells her to get up and then escorts her to see the boss. She doesn’t protest when the boss tells her that she’s going to help them whether she likes it or not. She just lets herself be kicked around because she doesn’t believe she has any other choice. She thinks she deserves whatever she gets. And really, if she believes either of those, she’s already lost the battle.
