Welp, I did the sketch design of Rookie Leon in my Original story/Universe The Biohazard Legacy. I think I like the sketch so far. I definitely wanted to keep his vibe while putting my own flare yet not compromising him too much.

Dear Capcom... I'm sensing a pattern here...
And now we have RE9 Leon... Capcom is really into strangling their Golden boy and just having him in distress in general. I'm not going to post the video because spoilers plus I couldn't find a gif😅
Is it because Leon has a chokehold on the fandom that now the fandom wants to see him in a chokehold?
I mean what? 🤣
Not to mention a certain new interrogation scene floating around now.
The Mystery of Leon's Silver Ring
... I'm going to be probably hated/get heat for even saying this. But I don't think Leon is married to anyone. Before you get your pitchforks and torches. Let me tell you the reason why.
No Clear Confirmation
There's no clear confirmation, no matter what articles or news say. The Director himself has been VERY ambiguous about the whole thing. Director Koshi Nakanishi went into hiding because someone decided to edit and make fake screenshots saying that he confirmed Leon was married. He had to publicly tell people that's not what he said. Which honestly, Shame on that User for doing that... Not cool.
Second, there could be a possibility that Leon had that ring before RE9 and it may just represent something else other than Marriage. Plus this Director does have a history of trolling people and then revealing the true meaning behind it afterwards. But until then, if he has not said Leon is married, then I'm taking it as Leon is not officially married.
Leon's Relationships
Leon does have a lot of strong contenders on who could date him. However, this is resident evil... Let's be real here. I won't go through all of the women but at least the ones frequently mentioned.
Ada Wong
I don't think he and Ada would actually get married. Why? Because they're both married to their jobs and Leon would probably turn her in because she helped with Bioterrorism and she burned him twice. That's definitely not a good foundation for a relationship realistically. She manipulated him twice and betrayed him. In the Remake Leon was not happy with Ada, even if she shows Remorse that trust was very much broken... Unfortunately, that is very hard to rebuild. Take it from a person ... (Me) Who has been in a relationship where someone has constantly manipulated them and lied to them. When you find out the truth, no matter how remorseful that person is. It's really hard to trust again.
Is it possible to trust again? Yes, but it will take a long while and usually people keep that person at arms length because you'll always have that glaring doubt that what if that person is going to hurt you again? Also, I don't see Ada settling anytime soon. Same with Leon...
I love Ada as a character, she's very interesting and holds a lot of potential. But I have to be real with that relationship too...
Claire Redfield
She's a strong and good possibility. However, I also think Claire still has her own goals and things to do. She's still doing her job and trying to make a difference by stopping bioterrorism in her own department. Could her and Leon get married? Maybe... Especially since they looked like they were flirting hard in Resident Evil 2 Remake and had some chemistry there. But again... Not right now.
Ashley Graham
I don't really have a lot of thoughts on that, it is an interesting possibility and I'm not saying it can't happen. But, we don't know where Ashley is... She dropped off the face of the Earth like Carlos, Billy, Sheva, Jessica, Helena and Barry... (Bring them back Capcom! ) I wish they would expound more on her. But I digress...
Sherry Birkin
No... Just no... If so... Why????? But seriously no. Don't need an explanation, you know why. And if you don't... Uh... I don't know what to tell you.
Leon's Development
I don't see Leon settling down anytime soon either... He's too driven about saving everyone from Bioterrorism before he could even think about settling down. I mean this man Saved Grace while he was very sick instead of staying in a lab and going through tests to find a cure, though it probably wouldn't help him anyway if he did stay behind. Because of his strong will to complete his goal and save everyone he can, being married would put A LOT more pressure on him.
He would have to make sure his wife remains safe and he hasn't mentioned a wife anywhere in the game. There's also no indication of him worrying about someone back at home during his mission. If Capcom wanted to have the narrative that Leon is married, they would have done it already within the release of RE9 instead of riling everyone up. Could things change within the DLC? Maybe... We don't know.
Leon is also a very beloved character, we all want to see him happy. But he can be happy in other ways other than getting married and having children. He can be happy by just being at peace or finding his own inner peace. Anyone can be single and be happy. Married people aren't the only ones who can be happy in fact if you're happy single you'll be even happier married. If you're not happy single marriage doesn't fix that...
The Director said "There's always a place for him to go home to." That can be anywhere. That phrase isn't just for a spouse, a Close Friend or Family Member can always open up their home for Leon and Leon does have a lot of Close friends. Also, who says it's just one home too? It could be metaphorical and it could be multiple places.
Capcom would be kind of risking it if they had Leon tied down or settled. There's been a lot of 50/50 instances where there's a good fictional couple story or a really bad couple story. It's always a gamble with those. Just like love is a gamble in Real Life, there's good stories and bad stories. But with Leon being such a major character I think Capcom is doing something akin to what Japan and Korea do with their Major pop Idols where they can't get married due to the fans. If they are married they keep it a secret. Sadly it is a rarity... For now.
I don't think Capcom is exactly doing it exactly like the Pop idols, but I think they leave it ambiguous and open because they enjoy seeing everyone's ships. Whether it's Ada, Claire, Ashley or even your OC, it seems they encourage it within good reason. So why stop that? I think they're trying to appease everyone. To the shippers and the non-shippers, to the canons and OCs.
Plus that mysteriousness and that ambiguity is what makes fans come back for more. It's genius honestly, because it keeps pulling everyone in. So if it's just gone, it won't be quite the same. Just like if Leon died it wouldn't be the same...
What do I think the Silver ring symbolizes?
I think it symbolizes his growth with the Franchise and Fandom. Whether he's Married or Single, he has a place to come back to and that he seems happy knowing that fact.
But let's think about this... What if that place, is not just with his friends or his love interests but also the fandom. Maybe we are also his home. Because we all keep him alive throughout his survival journey and as cheesy as it may sound his home maybe all our hearts combined. Because he holds a special place in the Fandom's heart.
And you can bet he always has a place to go with the fandom and maybe that's just another factor that helps Leon and Capcom to keep going.
