Darkstalker: The man of the hour! I went with a common fanon design mixed with a few elements of my own
Clearsight: I wanted to make her kinda chubby cause its mentioned she doesnt go out flying much. Purple clearsight is... actually not canon?? I thought it was, but I guess not (she’s purple in all our hearts). She does have purple eyes in canon though!
Fathom - I actually reverse engineered his design- it’s my turtle design but instead of brown overscales theyre stormy greenish. My clearpool design is closer to my turtle design though.
Indigo - I wanted to make her a girlboss, like Susie Deltarune but if Susie had a license to Kill
Pearl: Pearl is never described in the books once. I extrapolated from my anemone design to an extent though, gave her pale colors and such. her bracelets are mother of pearl.
Arctic - Evil bastard man. I just went with standard icewing for him.
Foeslayer - I don’t know if i’ll redesign her as hope, perhaps I will. She’s intimidating looking because its mentioned shes like. a really high rank in the NightWing army?? But i made her face kind : )
Whiteout - Whiteout my best friend whiteout. Her white patches are not like piebald but closer to vitiligo- as she gets older, she gets less blue more white. As a hatchling she had some white flecks. I think my design shows her at about age 5 or 6.
Albatross - I wanted to lean into the icewing parts of his heritage. He’s a canon hybrid, so I gave him an IceWing build.
Lagoon - I wanted to make her look more seawing than albatross, but she’s his sister, so like, she’s still half icewing like he is. I don’t know why people never mention that. Still, her and Sapphire make fun of albatross for looking ‘weird’, so I made her look the most seawing out of her siblings, she just has spikes and serrated claws
Humpback - old man
Sapphire - I had fun with her. I wanted a good mix of ‘a clear hybrid’ but not enough where it wouldnt make sense for her and lagoon to bully albatross. I think I achieved that. also idk what kinda clams they have in the wof universe but they would not cleanly cut off her claws those are entire bones. her hands are pretty mangled though.
Manta - Manta is albatrosses daughter so I gave her some IceWing traits
Current - I know they mean ocean currents but I thought of currant jam (hence the purple and reds)
Reef - I made him funky looking. blue and bright coral colors. I think that’s how the orange gene got into the royal family for coral to have her glowstripes to be coral colored.
Scallop - Pink like a clamshell in cartoons
Splash - I wanted to make her bright looking, but her colors ended up too close to Reef’s, so her stripes are more goldy than orange like I originally intended
Eel - Long boy
Sunset - I SWEAR she was described as pink but I guess not???? Either way fuck you she’s pink
Eagle - idk dude generic skywing
Allknowing - I wanted her to be someone who would have been pretty if she wasn’t so mean all the time
Truthfinder - She’s really got that frazzled principal aesthetic going for her.
Morrowwatcher - I based their design off of another NightWing who I hc them to be related to (I’ll get to her later). Also stopwatches.
Jeweleyes - Heterochromia but if it was fucking insane. They’ve got rainbow eyes and rainbow constellations
Vision - I realized that unless the population of the NightWings fucking went down DRAMATICALLY it was statistically unlikely that we wouldn’t meet two related nightwings so Vision is now Truthfinder’s kid.
Listener - I wanted to base her off of those little valentines day chocolate boxes with like four chocolates in them and two of the chocolates are the fruit ones with like orange goop and strawberry goop but you’ll eat them anyways
Quickdeath - generic assassin boy but his fit is probably expensive as FUCK those horns on his helmet are solid ruby
Vigilance - I gave her antlers because its cool, as well as a franky excessive amount of diamonds
Thoughtful - He has glasses and IS a glassblower so NightWings CLEARLY know what glass is. but in book 4 they just. forgot??? i guess??? which doesnt make sense either because MASTERMIND has glasses too!! so what the fuck, nightwings!
Swiftwings - Clearsight’s mom. They’re different colors but their body shapes are pretty similar. Went ham on the piercings
Wharf - briefly entertained the thought of a solid orange seawing but decided to go with blue. you can see it in his eyes though
Lionfish - All of the exciting design I sucked out of wharf i squeezed into Lionfish mans is fucking BONKERS looking. red seawings real???
Clearpool - Basically my turtle design lol but I gave her purple eyes like clearsight
Cowrie - Cowrie shell necklace
Ripple - His mom is pink and purple one of the children was bound to end up like this
Shadowhunter - Purples and greys. Gave her IceWing eyes because I think that’d be a pretty dominant trait in hybrids, since I assume black scleras are meant to prevent snow blindness
Eclipse - I just reworked my eclipse design from my animus whiteout au LMAO
Fierceclaws - Darkstalker and Clearsight both had green moms I think at least one of their children would be green. Its also mentioned that Fierceclaws may be named foeslayer in some ‘bad futures’ so I made her look sort of like her.
Foreseer - generic nightwing
Tunesmith - She is my FAVORITE background character that is mentioned like once. Her name is SO funny. either 1- her parents went to a seer to pick an accurate name, 2- her parents just... named her that??? and she went ‘fuck okay guess ill become a musician’ or 3- she changed her name as an adult??? like it couldve been like eviltime or starwing or something and she went. okay i’m changing my name to fit my fucking JOB. imagine if people did that. Hello My name used to be Billy Bob Smith but when I went to college I changed it to Billy Bob Psychologist. anyways i also made her morrowwatchers mom (gold accents likely arent that common). her sparkles/freckles were so fun to draw
Carmine - Carmine is red. I had fun with the veil though!
Anaconda - Old Rainwings were said to be very militarized so I made her fuckoff neon green, with darker anaconda bands. Her wings have jaguar patterns, and her face is mean to have skull markings. She has blowdarts attatched to her, and the feathers on her arms are quetzal feathers (a bird of paradise with cool green feathers)
Crane - MudWings were also said to be militarized, so I made their queen very battle prepared and scarred. I spent so long figuring out the logistics of a dragon leg prosthetic (because human leg prosthetics dont need individual toe movement but dragons do) before deciding to just go with a pirate-esque peg leg.
Scorpion - I made her covered in treasure because its said she was obsessed with it. Her markings are in a scorpion tail pattern.
Snowflake - She’s described as “pretty, in a boring, glassy way” so lots of greys there. She’s also wearing the gift of stealth if you notice- I think snowfox wouldve given it to her. I wasnt sure if I should tag her as royal because while i DO tag those who marry into royalty (see: gill and reef), its never mentioned if her and snowfox officially get married? I decided to just go with it
Snowfox - The sharp upturn in her horns is meant to mimic fox ears. The little mark on her snout is meant to mimic a fox nose. Purple icewings are fun. She’s wearing the gift of strength.
Diamond - Evil old lady. She is never described once in the book aside from the fact she wears diamonds. so. Ram horns because I wanted her to be intimidating
Discretion - Generic nightwing. They’re a diplomat, so I’d think they’d at least have some power (hence the mindreading)
Prudence - I had to work backwards from Foeslayers design to get to her. The stuff in her horns are green fire opal fillings
Starclaws - I had fun with this design. Another relative of Tunesmith in my hcs because tunesmith is so fun. sibling or cousin or something probably. lots of star freckles
