20240302: the History of LEGO Castle day 062. From 1984-1993, the LEGO Group produced 56 (47 unique sets, 3 sets with a different set number but actually the same, 4 minifigure boxes, one set a non-separated part of a combo set, and one service pack) sets in several different subthemes, including the Black Falcons, Black Knights, Crusaders, Forestmen, Lion Knights, and Wolfpack. While many of modern catalogues have combined the Crusaders and the Lion Knights, some have left them separate for the sake of authenticity. I decided to include the original catalogues and this was definitely a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The main designers for the LEGOLAND and LEGO System Castle sets were Daniel August Krentz, Niels Milan Pedersen, and Steen Sig Andersen.

20240222: the History of LEGO Castle day 053. 1590-1 / 1596-1 Ghostly Hideout (1993, 37 pieces, 22 different parts) The Ghostly Hideout is the last of the Wolfpack sets. Built on two green 2x10 plate, almost all of the buildable parts are black except the dark gray "Large Ugly Rock Part" (LURP) 3x8x7 triangular rock panel. The set also includes two large leaves and a dark gray parrot. The rock and the black bricks and panel create a space where the glow-in-the-dark ghost can be either hidden or moved into the visible space via a sliding panel on the bottom. The two minifigures for this set include a glow-in-the-dark ghost and a Wolfpack person with a brown torso and brown arms with a silver wolfhead on a black triangular pattern with a red border, black legs with a red belt, a red plastic cape, and a yellow minifigure head with black bangs, beard stubble, and a patch over one eye with a black hood. The Wolfpack member has a dark gray sword and a triangular shield with a silver wolf head on a black background with a red border. The Wolfpack shield is only found in four other sets (6038-1 Wolfpack Renegades, 6075-1 Wolfpack Tower, 5059-1 Castle Equipment, and 6105-1 Medieval Knights). This is a really fun little build and the sliding platform with the ghost is very entertaining :) This set was included in a 1993 Castle 3-Pack alongside 1547-1 Black Knight's Boat and 1624-1 King's Archer. 20240316: the History of LEGO Castle day 076. 5059 Castle Equipment (1993, 34 pieces, 27 different parts) 5135 Castle Accessories (1995, 34 pieces, 30 different parts) 5138 Castle Accessories (1994, 39 pieces, 28 different parts) 6105 Medieval Knights (1993, 37 pieces, 10 different parts) Parts inventory for 5059 Castle Equipment can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable, where you can notice that BrickLink indicates there are two dark gray halberds and two triangular shields with blue dragons with yellow wings on a red background with a blue border versus Rebrickable's one. When discrepancies like this happen, I always go with whichever inventory is highest. Parts inventory for 5135 Castle Accessories can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable, where both inventories match. The main difference with this accessory pack is the change from yellow and blue flags to red and white flags, the removal of the white dragon plume spruce, the removal of all Wolfpack items such as the shields and brown hood, and the change to the Royal Knights shields, plus the additional dark gray crossbow. Parts inventory for 5138 Castle Accessories can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable, where both inventories match. The only difference between 5059 and 5138 is the addition of one more Wolfpack shield plus the two dark gray armor pieces. This set could also be listed as 5135-2 from 1996 according to Rebrickable, but the inventory is exactly the same if it is a set that does exist. 20240315: the History of LEGO Castle day 075. The Dragon Masters / Dragon Knights is probably the easiest LEGO Castle subtheme so far in regards to minifigure pieces. There were really only five different torsos, five different minifigure heads, and six different legs. -The first minifigure pieces were unique to only Majisto, with a blue torso with blue arms and a yellow v-neck with a black belt and yellow buckle and a small brown pouch and plain blue legs. The torso and legs were only used in 1736 / 1746 / 2891 Wizard's Cart, 1906 Majisto's Tower, 6020 Magic Shop, 6048 Majisto's Magical Workshop, 6076 Dark Dragon's Den, and 6082 Fire Breathing Fortress. -One of the dragon master knights uses a yellow minifigure head with wavy black eyebrows, mustache, and goatee, a red torso with blue arms, printed silver shoulder covers, and a standing yellow and black halved dragon on a black and red background with black legs and a red belt. This torso, minifigure head, and leg combination is found in 1906 Majisto's Tower, 6043 Dragon Defender, 6048 Majisto's Magical Workshop, 6056 Dragon Wagon, 6076 Dark Dragon's Den, and 6105 Medieval Knights. -Another of the dragon master knights has a yellow minifigure head with black forehead tuft and mustache, a red torso with blue arms and a printed yellow dragon head on a red background with a printed black belt with yellow notches and circular hollow yellow belt buckle, and either light gray legs with a black belt or plain light gray legs. This head and torso combination was found in 1712 / 1732 Crossbow Cart, 1906 Majisto's Tower, 6043 Dragon Defender, 6056 Dragon Wagon, 6076 Dark Dragon's Den, 6082 Fire Breathing Fortress, and 6105 Medieval Knights. All those minifigures use the light gray legs with a black belt except 1906 Majisto's Tower, which used plain light gray legs. -The most complicated of the dragon master knights has a yellow minifigure head with red bangs, sideburns, eyebrows, and mustache, a red torso with one blue arm and one black arm, printed silver shoulder covers, and a yellow and black halved dragon head spouting yellow flames on a black and red background with one black leg and one blue leg and a red belt. The black and blue multi-colored torso and legs, as well as the red facial hair, were found in 1794 Dragon Master Chariot, 6076 Dark Dragon's Den, 6086 Fire Breathing Fortress, and 6105 Medieval Knights. -The last minifigure is a Wolfpack person with a brown torso and brown arms with a silver wolfhead on a black triangular pattern with a red border, black legs with a red belt, and a yellow minifigure head with black bangs, beard stubble, and a patch over one eye. The Wolfpack minifigure was found in 6082 Fire Breathing Fortress.
