The fact that he hadn’t seen Leila in quite a while was something Jay was willing to chalk up to the fact that he had a tendency to fixate on one thing in his life to the point where everything else became difficult to balance. It wasn’t something he was proud of but it wasn’t something he could avoid entirely, even if he’d made great strides since he was a child to be more present even with his fixations in the forefront of his mind. He’d invited Leila out for coffee half as an apology for being a subpar friend and half because he genuinely missed her-- they still hadn’t gone on their date and he was tempted to just ask her if coffee together could count-- it seemed like a low-risk option and he was still mulling that over as he stood up from the table to greet her with a broad smile. “Hey, stranger,” Jay said brightly, stepping towards Leila with a raised eyebrow. “Can I give you a hug? Or are my hug privileges revoked until I make up for how long it’s been since I’ve seen you?” He asked with a sheepish smile.
