      ------“ SHE WAS A loving but stern woman. i had a good relationship with her. ” he had been much closer to his mother than not. in truth, aleksander was devastated when she was killed, though such feelings were kept to himself and stuffed into an emotional bottle with a solid cork to topper it. the significant shift in his home life began thereafter - left only with a rigid father and high expectations. still, it wasn’t a bad life ... just less affectionate by all means.

      ------“ NO, I WAS an only child. i don’t think i could ever imagine my life with another member in the family. ” they moved, a lot. being a military brat meant assignments changed and long stretches of seeing neither parent existed. aleksander long suspected that he wasn’t even planned or possibly wanted, but the slade family made it work. having another sibling would have only muddied those waters.
