Leks Rivers: No rest for the wicked
I don't think there's anyone on in the UK making music as interesting as what Leks Rivers is doing at the moment. I think it would be nigh on impossible to try to categorise a track like 'No Rest For The Wicked' into a specific genre. It spans absolutely everything. I can only imagine the broad array of this guy's influences. Initially I wanted to put Leks Rivers down as a hip hop artist but there are RnB vocals lines in abundance and a pretty heavily used guitar alongside rock drums throughout. None of this categorisation really matters though.

London-based singer/producer Leks Rivers finally returns after hitting it big last year with such soulful tracks as ‘Nubian’ and ‘Parlour Games,’ but this time he ain’t fuckin’ around...
‘No Rest For The Wicked’ serves as a warning to the naysayers and the troublemakers, a storming trap ballad where synths crunch and the bass rumbles, and with a howling and determined Leks out for blood: ‘I am not to play/I am not here to love you/you’ve fallen a victim to fame/that is why I cannot trust you.’
Honestly, this has got to be the best track Leks Rivers has put out so far. A cut so fierce, it’s gonna leave you needing stitches... ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Innanet James features on the remix of Soho Knights by Leks Rivers, a talented London artist also on the comeup. It’s a brilliant collaboration between two great emerging acts who will undoubtedly cross paths again in the future.
It’s also turned me on to Leks Rivers again who I’d kind of had stored somewhere in the deep recesses of my soundcloud account. Really sorry that I missed his most recent performance just a week ago in Hoxton, but definitely keeping him on my radar. Check out the track Nubian for a taste of Rivers’ crooning Timberlake-style to a smooth minimal production. Another standout from his catalogue is When I’m High.
In a strange way, Leks Rivers technique of rap/singing and his topline melodies really take me back to 00s R&B, complete with soulful back up singers. It’s an updated take on its predecessor though, not quite as out and out glossy and retaining a raw edge to it that sees him standing his ground among the likes of Jay Prince and Lil Simz.
Leks Rivers: Soho knights
'Soho Knights’ is complex. Maybe it’s just me, but coming from someone who enjoys sticking on the likes of Proceed and Night Verses to fall asleep to, I think it’s fair to say Leks Rivers has created something intricate here. ‘Soho Knights’ is complex in a beautiful way though, I had to sit down and listen to this. I needed to pay attention when I first heard it. And so few artists are making music that you really need to concentrate on at the moment.
Of course, three or four listens down the line you’re hooked and the thinking takes a backseat whilst thorough enjoyment peaks. Leks Rivers’ video for ‘Soho Knights’ is great as well, I’ve been trying to find a way to describe it, but if you grew up in the 90s there’s no way you won’t appreciate the entire vibe.
I’ve said a lot of things here without really saying anything. Basically: Leks Rivers is genuinely one of the most exciting sounding new artists to emerge this year.
