Innanet James features on the remix of Soho Knights by Leks Rivers, a talented London artist also on the comeup. It’s a brilliant collaboration between two great emerging acts who will undoubtedly cross paths again in the future.
It’s also turned me on to Leks Rivers again who I’d kind of had stored somewhere in the deep recesses of my soundcloud account. Really sorry that I missed his most recent performance just a week ago in Hoxton, but definitely keeping him on my radar. Check out the track Nubian for a taste of Rivers’ crooning Timberlake-style to a smooth minimal production. Another standout from his catalogue is When I’m High.
In a strange way, Leks Rivers technique of rap/singing and his topline melodies really take me back to 00s R&B, complete with soulful back up singers. It’s an updated take on its predecessor though, not quite as out and out glossy and retaining a raw edge to it that sees him standing his ground among the likes of Jay Prince and Lil Simz.
