March to Your Beat....
It is easy to march the beat of others in situations of frustration where team dynamics are toxic causing constant unhappiness. Distractions decrease attention to important matters with numerous opinions sending resources in wild directions without appreciating the need for group effort. Group dynamics surround what each person brings rather than how the table is set and enjoyed. The goal is clear but "everyone has a way that is away from the next person's way" which reinforces lemming logic.
Walt Disney started the myth that lemming's natural impulses results mass suicide during migrations. Factually, as their population size becomes too dense lemmings migrate slow and erratically, at times having to swim across a body of water. Many drown in these situations as the water is so wide that it stretches their physical capability to the limit.
What is the relation to marching to your beat:
Too many is bad
Being in overly dense groups either in size, particular skills or similar personalities can stifle growth and cohesion. Teams are more collaborative with balanced diversity and clear leadership.
Unsettled Leadership
Avoid pursuing all directions at the same time to increase resource utility. Lemmings drown pursuing a course beyond their capability which is similar to teams with unsettled leadership. Leadership includes the highly influential within the team whose action can send others into situations beyond their capability.
Finding the Beat
The culture of the team is easily created but difficult to change. Teams should figure out what works for them in their current situation with little comparisons as possible. Teams at their core are individuals and without the purpose of the team aligning with the individual it would be difficult to find the beat.
