Maid Marian walks a delicate balance between what is expected and what she craves, and the arrival of her childhood friend, Robin, Lady Huntington, does nothing to simplify matters. Marian must decide where her loyalties lie—to the absent king, to the one who sits the throne in the King’s place, to the husband who has been chosen for her, or to the woods, and to freedom, and to the dreams she’d almost forgotten. And all the while, bandits haunt the woods around Nottingham, and Marian suspects that their leader is closer to her than anyone might suspect.

Becks Kaplan didn’t have a good high school experience. Outed by her step-sisters at an all girls school that purported more progressive politics than she ever experienced there, all she wanted to do was get away from New York City forever. But it’s been ten years, and there’s a reunion, and she wants to show everyone that she’s not that frightened baby dyke anymore. And maybe catch the eye of the former classmate she always wished she’d known better.

One Word Prompt: Free
You marry him because it's a free pass. He promises you the world, promises you you'll want for nothing. Money makes the world go round, which means that he makes the world go round, because he's got lots, and lots, and lots of money.
It's bliss for a while--everything you want with a click of your fingers. The finest wines in crystal glasses, gowns of silk. He even gives you a baby, who you love more than you thought you could love. And you know he'll give that baby the world too--that you'll give that baby the world.
Except he dies.
He's not supposed to die.
Prince Charmings lead you into joy for the rest of your days, they don't have a heart attack in your bed and go stiff frighteningly quickly after their hearts stop beating. People grieve, and lenders come offering condolences and a huge stack of bills you never knew he hadn't paid.
Gone are the crystal glasses, the gowns. You don't let them take your child, but they do take the roof over your head and the bed he died in. Nothing gold can stay; nothing's ever free.
Liyotte may not have expected love in her marriage, but she at least had thought she wouldn't wish to murder her husband in earnest. Six years after starting to dream of it, the stars were aligning and it was time to fly.

One Word Prompt: Quiet
She'd always been an introvert. Tea, and a book, and a cat curled up on her lap. She didn't really understand people who went out at night, seeking the loud and the exciting. It was too much for her most of the time, and made her exhausted in a way that sleep couldn't quite make her recover from.
She'd always been alone, until she wasn't. Suddenly her apartment was full of another person--his phone calls home, videos watched on his phone in the other room. She liked being loud with him, liked when he made her loud in a bedroom that was usually too quiet.
It wasn't loud, having him there--not exactly. It wasn't noisy and overwhelming. It was white noise, more than anything else. Welcome and comforting, like his arms around her waist. She was happy when it wasn't silent. She hadn't known she could be happy when it wasn't silent.
But oh, how loud the quiet was when he left.
One Word Prompt: Gown
"What do you think?" Graham asked. "Sexy, right? You can see my butt. Look." He held his arms out and twirled, the hospital gown opening at the back just the way he'd planned it.
"Stop joking, please," Marty replied. He had this sick knot in his stomach. He kept waiting for the doctor to come back and tell them what was wrong. Test after test after test and they still didn't know, and it looked like Graham was wasting away in front of him. He'd lost fifteen pounds and his skin was hanging loosely from his frame.
They were supposed to get married in June. What if Graham--
"Hey," Graham cut across the thought firmly. "None of that."
"None of what?" Marty replied, hopelessness washing over him.
"Whatever made your face crumple. None of it." Graham took a step closer to him, took each of his hands in his and squeezed. "Tell me I look sexy."
"So sexy," Marty replied, and Graham kissed him on the tip of his nose.
"What if I wear this to the wedding? It is a gown."
"I'll kill you if whatever this is doesn't get there first." Graham burst out laughing. "Deal."
