White just stared in horror at what she had done. A spanking was one thing, but she had just cut her child with her staff in their argument.

“Oh stars… ” she trembled out. “Yellow, I… I… I didn’t mean it. ”

It couldn’t be. At least, that’s what Yellow Pearl kept telling herself, but as she held the fragments of a pearl in her hand, it didn’t make it any less real. The accident had happened, burned in her memory. The accident that had almost taken away another one of their queens.

And instead it took away her love.

Truly Unloved

Steven started spending nights in Homeworld, something his family didn’t like but they couldn’t stop him. It’s what made him the happiest since he hated being at home, so why would they?

The Diamonds sometimes slept as well, perhaps influenced by him. He’d snuggle into their lap, hair, or cloak (depending on the Diamond), contendedly shutting his eyes.

But when he opened them this time he found himself in an ominous void of darkness.

Auntie Diamonds

It had been months since Steven had managed to bring Pink Diamond back to Homeworld, effectively ending the war between their two races and bridging the gap of their worlds. Of course it wasn’t that simple though. 

Steven found himself gradually straying more and more from the Crystal Gems. Garnet and Pearl at least; Amethyst was the only one that hadn’t lied to him. Despite his love for his family, his bond with them was never the same, and honestly he preferred spending time on Homeworld at this point. The Diamonds were about the only ones that hadn’t lied to him, and Steven was enjoying getting to know more about his heritage--the parts that didn’t involve past, massive genocide.

It wasn’t all bad... And he loved spending time with his human friends in the zoo--people that Pink wanted to return to earth but knew she couldn’t. After being in there for so many years, they would not survive on their own.

At least the child had somewhere to go when he just needed to get away from his life on earth, and the people who probably just looked at him as a watered down version of Rose Quartz. It was nice to be around people that cared about him for Steven and not his mother.

Yellow Pearl grimaced as she heard little pattering footsteps on the floor approaching the corridor. “My Diamond,” she drawled. “It appears the human has come for another visit...”
