it had never been a problem as long as they surrounded themselves with the right people. They hadn’t always been so good at that and even now they had the occasional lapse in judgement. Sometimes it was a mistake, sometimes it was inevitable, sometimes they went looking. It was a primal sort of destruction, feeding weeds with fertiliser trying to sow their own fracturing.
The apartment block loomed in the pre-dawn darkness. Everything felt just a little surreal, the slight blue glow illuminating every nook and cranny like the inside of a dream. Their footprints tracking rainwater on the moon and the front doors of the building the opening of a rocketship ready to blast off. They caught a quick glimpse of their reflection on the glass, were startled by the uncanny expression laying there. This was the place. They needed apartment 8/20 and after wandering countless corridors and crickety elevators they made it, hand poised to knock confidently. Then they decided against it, checked the doorknob and let the door swing gently and silently open. Not even the building wanted to break the emersion. The interior of the apartment reeked of disuse and criminal thinking. The walls were bare, oppressive, just on the wrong side of off white. Two doors lingered opposite each other on the far side of the room, leading to the promised bedroom and bathroom.
question: is it creepy to become a mortician? it’s either that or stem cell research. please feel no pressure to give a response; even so i appreciate any. i’m petrified by this decision
