“Thirty-five dollars for a bar of soap?” Lennon didn’t think he’d said it too loudly, but the woman behind the table just trying to sell her goods definitely heard him. She mumbled something about being all-natural and yada yada, he couldn’t really hear her and he was too embarrassed to tell her to speak up or enunciate. He’d always hated being chastised. When it seemed like she was finished, he turned to leave, but then thought better of it. As he turned back around, he noticed her attention was on a new potential customer, so he reached over and grabbed the bar of soap he’d been eyeing, pocketing it before hustling away. Lennon didn’t get far before making eye contact with someone who definitely looked like they’d seen him, and he stopped walking, cheeks burning from the entire encounter. Shit. He wasn’t sure what to even do from there.
Dragging the last of his cigarette, Reza threw the butt into the nearby bin before walking around the fair aimlessly. He stopped by one of the booths that apparently sold scented soaps and started smelling the samples as the woman was entertaining someone else. The conversation seemed to revolve around how the woman boasted about the health benefits of her homemade soaps, hence the high price. Reza did sense a trace of magic around the soap, so it wouldn’t be an exaggeration that the soaps had the benefits the woman said. But thirty-five dollars for a bar of soap?
Feeling irritated, Reza took one that was nearest to him; Orange zest lemon soap, and pocketed into his jacket before moving to smell another bar of soap. When the woman turned her attention to him, he argued about the price with her and tried to haggle the price for the one that he was holding, before his eyes caught the other pocketing a bar of soap himself. Arching his brow, as their eyes met, before cutting the woman off. “Yeah, yeah. But thirty-five? That’s a rip-off, love.” He threw the bar of soap back onto the counter. “Me and my mate ain’t buyin’ any.” Reza slung his hand around the other guy, waving off the woman who they left in a huff.
“Here.” Reza took out his soap after they were quite a distance from the soap booth and gave it to the other. “Bet you’ll smell real fruity after this, hm.”
