I've been watching this interview with Robert Clary and... I need to share some moments of it with you guys. These are funny quotes, interesting quotes, little insides to the behind the scenes (like on Ivan Dixon leaving) and some that I thought showed how the actors and their characters were pretty alike! Robert Clary is such a wonderful person...
(About Bob Crane) The rest of us was very liberal Democrats and he was not, he was- he was a Republican - which was fine! I mean, that's his problem.
---------------------------------
Everybody knew their dialogue, nobody said: "Uh, wh-what's my line?!" - Nobody.
---------------------------------
(About Larry Hovis) We used to sing, you know, in the- the- in-between takes we used to sing. He would harmonize because I always sing the- the- the... the lines, the- you know- He would harmonize.
---------------------------------
I cannot complain about the cast, really.
---------------------------------
Robert Clary: My close friends at the time were Werner Klemperer and John Banner. Very close.Interviewer: Tell us about them.
Robert Clary: German.
---------------------------------
Intellectually, he (Werner Klemperer) was wonderful. John Banner was the complete opposite, he was charming, he was nice, he was- He was like a teddy.
---------------------------------
Werner was half Jewish, John was Jewish, Leon Askin was Jewish, Howard Cain was Jewish, yes. - We're actors! We gonna say no to a part that's gonna give us money every week? Especially if the part is good? It's a tough business. [...] If you believe in God you say: "Thank god, thank you."
---------------------------------
You know, it's sad that out of all of them, I'm the last one still alive.
---------------------------------
Richard was a neighbour of mine. - Wonderful. Very witty. Very funny.
---------------------------------
We were replacing Ivan, Ivan Dixon, yeah- Because Ivan, you know, sometimes had very little to do, even worse than I did. And he felt that he wanted to do something else.
---------------------------------
He was not Ivan Dixon, but he was a cute man.
