never thought i’d say this, but i got plans for leon in the archival vault au
i’ll be honest, leon kinda skeeves me out as a person, but i do like having him around as a character because i think he’d fit really well with an idea i had for a more antagonistic force in digit’s life. according to a debatably-canon statement by kermit, leon was never actually hired for muppetelevision, which i can kind of believe because he doesn’t seem to have an actual job there? so yeah, it’s canon to this au.
after the jhh was over and the muppets began transitioning to (what would be) a rough period in the early 2000s, kermit and the old guard left leon and the muppetelevision crew behind to go reunite with his old friends. leon, having both reaped the benefits of staying there and genuinely liked the atmosphere/dynamic he had with his coworkers, deeply resented kermit and company for leaving him and the muppetelevision crew behind.
years pass, and leon is confused when kermit contacts him again and is further disappointed when he finds out that kermit doesn’t want him back for anything involving the muppets. still, he gets back in contact with digit as promised.
while digit wants to feel included with his fellow muppets again, leon has long since given up on the idea and actively discourages digit from pursuing it. part of this is because leon genuinely believes there’s no place for the weird, experimental muppets in kermit’s troupe, but also because he just wants to have someone with which to (metaphorically) keep living in the 90s and talk about how much he resents kermit for becoming a big shot hollywood star. he’s very much the sort of person who’d rather be angry at the world/society for “moving on without him” rather than consider that he might be the one stuck in the past.
