Would you consider writing a oneshot where the reader is the dearing captain of the enterprise and in a relationship with bones? The reader is trying to stay in shape, manage the ship and on top of that to advance her expertise in engineering. It becomes too much and a worried Bones steps in.
I just want to make it clear so there isn’t any confusion, what I am writing I consider a drabble. I don’t write requests for one-shots anymore because they just take too long. Drabbles are shorter than one-shots so I’m just making any request for a one-shot a request for a drabble. No biggie.
Some people might say that you had bitten off much more than you could chew, but you’d tell them they needed to mind their own beeswax. Sure you were the captain of one of the most important exploratory vessels in the federation at the same time you were studying the intricate details of the ship’s engineering, exercising regularly, and trying to be a good significant other, but you had everything under control. The ship hadn’t had any mechanical issues in weeks, you’d found two new star systems, and your mile was down to 9 minutes. So what if you were only getting four hours of sleep at night and you hadn’t seen your boyfriend, Bones, in almost two weeks.
However, if you asked Bones the same thing he’d agree without a beat of hesitation. It’s true that the ship was running exceptionally well and that you’d made a lot of progress on your fitness, but you were regularly dehydrated, exhausted, and malnourished. The doctor inside of Bones wanted to strap you to a bed in the medbay and make you rest for a few days, but the boyfriend side of him… also wanted the same thing. But he couldn’t manage to keep track of you for the ten short minutes it would take to convince you to take a day off.
But this time he had you cornered. You were huddled away in your ready room, preparing reports and reviewing information about your next destination when Bones opens the door without knocking. You look up from your monitor to stare him down with raised eyebrows.
“Hey there. Something I can help you with?”
Before he answers he keys the door locked and sits down in one of the few seats in the small room. When he finally locks eyes with you, you know you’re in for a lecture.
“Anyway this lecture is going to be over in the next five minutes? Because I’m due back on the bridge.”
“It’ll be over even quicker if you decide to listen to me for once.”
You gesture to him to continue with the conversation. “You need to take a day off. Or a week off.”
“Oh my goodness are we going to have this conversation again. I’ve told you before but I’ll tell you again. I am perfectly fine.”
“Says the person with five empty cups of coffee on their desk. All from this morning.”
You roll your eyes. “There are plenty of people who drink a lot of coffee in the morning. That doesn’t mean I’m wasting away like you’ve been insisting.” Normally at this point in the conversation Bones would sigh heavily and remind you that he’s worried about you both as a doctor and of course as your boyfriend. But this time he makes no move to concede.
“If you don’t start taking some time off and cutting back on your work I’m going to have to step in as the chief medical officer of this ship and force you to step away.”
For the next several seconds you and Bones stare each other down, waiting for the other to back down admit defeat in the silent battle. But it quickly became apparent to you that Bones was fully prepared to use his position to lock you in a room under medical watch. You lean back into your chair with a deep sigh.
“Fine. I’ll schedule myself a few days off a month and I’ll let you change my fitness regime.”
“And you’re going to get eight hours of sleep a night.”
“I’ll be in bed for eight hours a day, but I can’t promise I’ll be asleep.”
Bones shakes his head. “Fine.” He leans forward and rests his elbows on your desk. “But I’ll be checking in on you to make sure you follow my instructions.” A small, teasing smile lights his face, breaking the tension that filled the room.
You lean forward and meet him half way across the desk, hovering inches away from his face. “I was hoping for something a little more than you checking in on me.” You press you lips against his and he quickly deepens the kiss. But it’s not long before he pulls away and sits back in his chair.
“I think it’s about time you get back to the bridge, Captain.” He puts emphasis on your title before shooting you a smile and standing from his seat.
You move to follow him. “I guess you’re right.” You step around your desk and intercept Bones before he can make it out the door. You wrap your arms around his neck and look up at him. “I’ll see you tonight right?”
He locks his arms around your middle and leans his forehead against yours. “What kind of doctor would I be if I didn’t follow up on my promises.”
You give him one last kiss before unraveling yourself. “Thanks for looking out for me Leonard.”
