I think probably the thing I hate the most about no more computer at work is that I miss my friends in UK on GMT so much. </3
leonerdnimoy replied to your photoset “Genderswap Trek.”
i don't think 'genderbend' is considered a good word so maybe use genderswap instead? 'presentation play' is also a good one :)
Done! Sorry if I offended someone :(
I've seen it hypothesised before that thisiswhiteculture is a troll blog, which would make sense with their antisemitism and anti-sj rhetoric about being called out. Or they're 'just' antisemitic, one of the two.
i really don't think so
leonerdnimoy replied to your post “Suddenly a bunch of porn blogs started to follow me and I am here...”
if you tag an original post nsfw porn blogs always follow. without fail.
That's the weird thing... I haven't posted anything remotely nsfw-ish, just reblogs, for that matter... :/

Hi, I saw your post about interracial ships in fandom, and I was really confused by the Doctor/Rose thing...? Doctor/Rose is pretty much canon, in terms of Ten/Rose at least. I wasn't in the fandom pre 2007 so I don't know what it was like before Martha came along, but I've always got the impression from people I know who have shipped it for that long that it was always a big thing. Sorry, I don't mean to be shitty or judge you, I just didn't realise.
Pretty much everyone I know thought Doctor/Rose was creepy, disturbing, and way out of left field when it first happened. People had viewed the Doctor as a sort of surrogate father to Rose, who had never really had a father, and Rose as a surrogate daughter to the Doctor, who recently lost his entire family. Mickey being concerned about their relationship was viewed as a hilarious joke because they were so obviously not into each other in that way.
Most of the people I talked to were of the opinion that the Doctor shouldn't have romantic or explicitly sexual relationships onscreen, especially not with humans, and especially not with human teenagers. When Nine kissed Rose (for totally non-romantic reasons) at the end of series 1, people were really uncomfortable and thought it meant the death of the show, and a ton of people were relieved that the relationship didn't become romantic when series 2 started. When Rose admitted she loved the Doctor in Doomsday, I could practically hear the internet let out a collective groan.
It wasn't until Martha showed up that I saw the same people talking about "um, he and Rose are meant to be? He's in love with Rose, and this new companion isn't nearly as perfect for him as Rose was," and the big shift was basically just "I had a major problem with a 900-year-old alien falling in love with a human teenager, but I'd rather he fall in love with a white teenager than a black adult."
>a show and be like 'wow, this is really sexist' but not always judge the character as a sexist because they're not a real person, the flaw is in the show/writer not them necessarily. I don't think I'm making sense but yeah, I agree with you.
sad story: first part of message was lost, here is the reconstruction
Lol sorry, I can’t find it in my outbox either. Basically what I said was that I agree with you completely about the need to criticise media and acknowledge racism, sexism etc in shows, but for me it tends to be an in-universe vs out-of-universe kind of thing - I can enjoy the fictional universe and characters and make up headcanons while also critiquing the show as it’s constructed/written. As in, like, liking the characters but disliking the writers, that kind of thing.
Totally! I definitely get that. Except I don't really see many people criticize Gene Roddenberry which is strange (maybe I'm not seeking it out though or it gets blacklisted). I am kind of afraid to criticize him too much and also TOS isn't my main fandom anymore so I don't really focus on Roddenberry's writing much.
I can understand the reluctance to criticize the person who created the entire Star Trek universe. He's someone people, including the main cast of TOS, spoke highly of. I've reblogged a couple posts about him here. I'd really love to delve more into this but I have an anthropology paper I have to write before tomorrow. I hope it comes as easily as this discussion about Star Trek :)
