Leon dazes away as he works on the generator, nearly exploding it more than a couple of times. Being taken by the fog was horrifying and overwhelming, but facing Nemesis with all these zombies only makes it worse. It feels like an eternal Raccoon City and he’s not sure how much more of this he can take. He barely even notices Felix helping him with the generator, too distracted by the gurgles of the passing zombies. The hair on the back of his neck starts to stand as he hears the near music alerting the Nemesis’ imminent encounter.
Though it never came. He takes a second to look around only to notice Felix is now gone, he supposes Felix led the Nemesis away. The generator pops, alerting everyone that the exit gates have been powered up. He hurries toward an exit gate and immediately starts to open it. His skin crawls as he hears the Nemesis once again coming close. As the gate opens he looks behind him to see an injured Felix with Nemesis following closely behind. He feels like a deer in headlights, he can’t seem to run even though he’s terrified. Even though Felix is injured he saves Leon again. Taking Leon’s hand, Felix pulls him out of the exit gate with him, the Nemesis nearly missing them both with his tentacle.
They keep running until the campfire can be seen in the distance, Felix slowing them both down as they near it. As soon as they reach the campfire Claudette is pulling Felix over, leaving Leon behind. Leon soon finds himself wandering from the campfire to sit in a private section of the woods surrounding them. He sits at the base of a thick tree and stares up into the night sky. He starts to silently cry, bringing his face into his knees. He thought leaving Raccoon City would stop all of this but now there seems to be no end in sight. He grabs at his hair in an attempt to curl into himself further, he wants to run away but it all seems pointless. His thoughts get abruptly interrupted as a branch cracks from behind him. Leon spins around quickly, half expecting it to be the Nemesis coming to finish him off, but he’s calmed by Felix’s soft face instead.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Felix explains, noticing Leon’s tear stained face and worried eyes. Leon quickly wipes at his eyes and turns away from him.
“No, I’m sorry you walked in on this.” Leon tries to apologize but Felix quickly cuts him off.
“Don’t be. I know what this place can do to you.” He points to the ground next to Leon, in question. “Do you mind if I sit with you?” Leon shakes his head and scoots over slightly.
“Please.” Leon hates feeling like this, let alone having someone see him like this, but Felix makes him feel a lot safer so he tolerates letting him in. “I’m sorry you got hurt because of me.” Leon apologizes quietly, noticing the new bandages he’s wearing.
“Don’t worry about it, I’m just fine.” Felix passes over it. “I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. You looked like you were having a really rough time in the trial. Do you maybe want to talk about it?” Felix offers to him, hoping to let Leon get what he needs off his chest.
“Uh” Leon stutters mentally as he tries to collect his thoughts. “Well” He feels tears welling in his eyes once again. “I just felt like I was back where I started. There was a zombie outbreak where I was before and just as I was getting out I ended up here.” He feels his voice shake. “I’m scared I’m never gonna get out of this.” Felix carefully takes Leon’s hand, trying to comfort him. Leon tenses at the sudden contact but after a couple moments starts to relax in Felix’s hand.
“I can’t imagine how hard it is to have to keep reliving that. I’m really sorry Leon.” Leon leans against Felix lightly, exhausted from the trial and stress weighing on him. “I know it seems hard to believe right now, but you just have to believe in going home someday. It may not be today or tomorrow, but someday we’ll get out of here. I promise.” Leon nods his head against Felix’s shoulder as he stares off into the dark woods. This place feels nowhere close to safe but somehow sitting here with Felix felt protected.
