#LeotynePrice, first African-American/Black to sing opera on television. Studied 4 years at the Juilliard School of Music and had her singing debut on Broadway. This led to her being chosen to play Bess in Ira Gershwin's, Porgy & Bess, for 2 years and went on to tour the USA and Europe. Her operatic stage debut took place at the San Francisco Opera, where she performed for 3 consecutive years before her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She became one of their leading Soprano's. Leotyne went on to win several Grammy's. Being a "first" and one of "our" pioneers, Ms. Price took her role seriously by always being conscious of the ugly racism going on. She refused to accept what she considered inappropriate roles and invested dignity and grandeur into her performances. #BlackHistoryMonth #WhatWillYourLegacyBe
