That it originally started off with the Hermits catching him and wrecking him cause he was being pranking menace, to him becoming even more of a menace to get those exact reactions, because the introverted part of him just doesn’t know how to ask to for it.
Like how someone else said, Ren is like the tickle monster, but may I say that it’s also Scar, Xisuma, Doc, and Cub.

I think maybe at the start because Scar didn't know Grian aaas well he didn't actively go for Grian but did when he was given the chance to but then after getting closer Grian became a main target ESPECIALLY after the desert
