Someone make an analysis on how each of the Les Amis webseries differ while still using the same source material because I want to have a lot of thoughts about it but I’m too busy eating lentils in the Middle East to do it.

Ahhhh thank you so much!!!🙏🏼😭🙏🏼 it’s so cool to hear from someone who is familiar with the old stuff! it reminds me of when artists do those like redraws of their old work to show how they’ve developed and i never thought i’d actually be able to do that shit with my art BUT I ACTUALLY CAN?

2014 vs 2019

Wide shots

2014- what is framing? why is this emotional scene even a wide shot wtf

2019- actually level and an appropriate use of a wide--to get us into a scene

Medium Close Up Shot

2014 - backlit?? no lighting in Enj’s face so can’t see the emotion also HAIR IN FACE. this actually has sort of the correct framing for a MCU but it still looks awkward because i’m too close to the camera lense so it’s distorted

2019 - facing the correct direction so we can see Marius’ emotions, no hair in face, evenly lit, and real MCU framing

Two Shot

2014 - wh...why are we over there in the corner? we can’t see combeferre’s face even when he says his lines??

2019 - even with R’s turned face, we can still see his expression. we feel like we’re right in the moment with these two and not awkwardly hanging off to the side trying to figure out what’s going on

Depth of Field

2014 - there is no depth of field. at all. this is an important scene where Combeferre (back) says that he will stand with Enjolras during the fucking revolution. if i wanted to show combeferre while also having Courfeyrac presence be known, this would be where some depth would have helped

2019 - YEAH BABY. Marius’ reaction is the most important in this shot, but Amélie needs to be seen because this is her episode.

A Bed

2014 - i just thought it was funny that there’s a bed scene in Les Amies Rise as well as All That’s Left of Us

2019 - honestly the biggest difference here is coming from camcorder (2014) to a Canon

UNDERSTANDING WHEN TO USE A FUCKING CLOSE UP

2014 - this shot actually turns into a close up via a (person walked) dolly shot but honestly this is such an emotional moment because Enj is about to DIE so i should have gone for the close-up sooner. also there is way too much happening in this frame--i wanna focus on RATHGORMACK instead of Enj

2019 - ENJ IS ABOUT TO LIVE SO OF COURSE WE’RE GOING TO GO TO A CLOSE UP

(also i love les amies rise and our team then did incredibly with what we had so no shade to them....just shade to me 😂)

Remember the times we said we'd be overjoyed if only 3 idiots with a phone camera made a crappy Les Amis series?
