Less desire, less work
From How to Be Idle (by Tom Hodgkinson):
“If you want nothing, you don’t need to work. If you are full of desires, then you will have to work in order to get the money to fulfill those desires.”
This reminds me of Naval’s words: “Desire is suffering. So limit your desires.”
Work is not a bad thing. The bad thing is overwork. And overwork most often stems from the desire to get ahead of everybody.
We often buy things we don’t truly desire for their own sake, but for the respect and admiration we can get from other people - most we don’t even like.
