Lesson four: always have a sense of humor
Leslie laughed. "Sleep well and don't eat Tristie's fingers," he whispered, already drifting off once more.
“Hear that? No finger eating.” Tristan brought the phone back to his hear. “Goodnight, sweetheart.”
If only Tristan could see the blush he had put on Leslie's cheeks. The smile creating an ache. The witch burrowed under the covers and sighed. "Gonna close my eyes now."
“Okay, baby. Dream good things. I love you so much. Opal, say goodnight to your dad.” He held the phone up to Leslie’s little ferret.
"We don't have to."
“You kidding? No way am I missing out on time with you, no matter what form it’s in.”
"Of course you did," he chuckled. "You ever been on the phone like this with anyone?"
“Can’t say I have, no. Never been a big phone talker.”
"Never said goodnight to an animal before," he chuckled. "Not that I remember. You're already at my house?"
“Yep, you caught me driving. And you should always say goodnight to animals. I always used to say goodnight to Larry.”
"Will you stay on the phone with me?"
“Of course I will. Lemme put you on speaker so you can say goodnight to Opal.”
"I miss you," Leslie whispered, voice heavy with fatigue.
“I miss you, too, Les. We’ll see each other real soon.”
