Lesson Five: Everyone Says I Love You
As a Woody Allen enthusiast that hasn't seen many of his films, I'm working my way through that which Netflix has to offer. 'Everyone Says I Love You' is an all star studded (of course) musical (really) set in New York, Paris and Venice (again, of course).
1: One of the things i love most about Baz Luhrman's films is the notion of taking modern music and putting it in an old setting. Woody Allen does the exact opposite. A contemporary setting with old jazz age music. I think as long as it doesn't fit properly, i like it.
2: There must be something about New York in spring, autumn and winter that is totally magical. Of course, the last time i was there, it was summer. So i guess i'll have to wait until the next time i go to visit in one of those seasons and experience the RomCom nature of the city.
3: So the little girl from Sleepless in Seattle is now sisters with a young Natalie Portman. Hollywood has a way of pairing people.
4: "Men age differently to Women, Two years and i'll look like your son".
5: Apparently in Harry Winston, the employees sing and skip using ropes made of diamonds. All in a days work.
6: "it's Bavarian pasta, it doesn't need sauce".
7: Thanks to films like these, every girl seems to suffer from 'White knight syndrome'. The theory that a perfect guy is going to sweep each girl off their feet and fall in love instantly. This is the start of people's problems, mine included.
8: "in a break up, its better to be a leaver than a leav-ee". For a leaver, surviving the guilt is the worst thing that should happen to you. So the lesson here, dump them before they dump you. Wise words.
9: "I know everything about her. Whats her name? I don't know". Just because you stalk someone, doesn't mean you know all the right details.
10: On that note, liking what she likes and following her to all the right places seems to lead to romance. But its a short lived fantasy.
11: The perfect simple life is full of falling in love and taking walks in the rain. Then you'll probably get a cold and despise the person you walked with.
12: "Very interesting, I've never been kissed by a sociopath before". Such a calm statement, in a crazy world.
13: In order to be happy with what you have, you need to get over the fact that dreams are just that, dreams. Have an adventure and get back to reality.
14: For some reason, characters in Woody Allen films always have that little something that i too encompass. This time, its pumpkin fairy lights hanging in my room.
15: Please can someone take me to a Marx Brothers themed christmas party where everyone has moustaches. Here lies the original hipster.
16: In the real world, if a street is empty, its dodgy. In films, the same scenario is the setting for spontaneous dancing. This is why i should live in a film.
