I'm in a show and i wanted this one part that is literally me and I didn't get it and this has happened before and I'm fine with it because I know that the girl who got it is better than me and I get over it fast, but this time the girl who got the part cannot sing the part, at all, and I have no idea what I did so wrong in my audition because I can sing it fine and I know I'm sounding mean but I actually like this girl and she's great but just not in this part. How do you deal when the 1/2
2/2 casting choices seem so unfair? Especially when you have to listen to a girl crack and break and blow air in a song you can sing with ease? I really hope I'm not sounding mean because this girl is nice it's just really hard to get over when everyone in the cast and the choreographer knows and has asked why did you get the part. I just want some advice on trying to stomach this because it really sucks and I want to have a good time in the show. (It's community theatre also btw)
Unfortunately, we don’t know all the factors that went into casting, and we never will. And when we see one facet of things that we can clearly do better at, it’s incredibly frustrating. But it also doesn’t get us anywhere to speculate or to dwell on a casting decision. Perhaps there is something in her performance beyond her singing that got her the role. Perhaps the casting team made a mistake. Perhaps there were some politics involved. Even though we know we could play a role, for some reason or another, they thought that this other person’s take on it matched their vision of the show. That doesn’t mean you’re bad or they hate you, nor does it mean you couldn’t do it! And at the end of the day, what’s done is done, and it’s out of our hands. You’re allowed to be disappointed, but don’t let yourself dwell on it and let it ruin your show experience. I know it’s even harder when people are saying things like, “Well, you should have clearly gotten it!” because it fuels are negative feelings, so try to shut that out and just focus on where you are and what you can do with what you have!
