One year ago I got to do something completely magical. I dressed up and walked a few blocks from my hotel to the Palais Garnier. As I sat in my seat, I looked around at the gorgeous and intricate art, especially the ceiling and listened to the many languages (but mostly French) being spoken around me. And then the curtain rose… The Paris Opera Ballet dancing La Sylfide, a ballet originally danced by Marie Taglioni.
It was breathtaking.
And then all too soon, it ended. Outside, it poured and the sky shook with lightning and thunder. Later, I found out that it was one of the heaviest deluges in Paris since possibly 1880. So I made my way back to my hotel, sans umbrella.
It was a perfect night. (at Palais Garnier)
