Composure. This really isn't a big deal at all but I will say this is an interesting move for Jon. If its not stand up or a charity gala he tends to avoid doing stuff like this like its an actual plague. I mean, I'm assuming its going to be very similar to the one from last year in which case its just sitting on stage reading but still, been a while since Jon has really done anything he would call acting. Especially over 10 days. In the last two years he's only done the Bupkis cameo & voicing the robot in IF (& no he doesn't consider what he does at the TDS desk acting even though 'technically' its a performance but he tends to classify acting as doing something 'written by someone that's not him') So I'm intrigued to say the least.
For fun, there's a few things we can draw tangentially from this:
TDS will break for Christmas the week beginning 8th December (not unusual last year it was the 9th)
Jon is clearly looking for things to do to fill his time as his kids are now at the age where they are not at home all the time now & he did seem to genuinely enjoy the show when he went to the premiere last year so why not give it a go?
(pure speculation for funsies) This seems at present the most substantial evidence we have that Jon & his production company are not leaving TDS just yet. Jon now schedules his stand up & other gigs around TDS so Jon doing the first week in December directly after TDS breaks for Christmas rather than doing anything in Jan or beyond is slightly telling. Now in the last few months Jon has made it plain on many occasions that he is very happy to continue/wants to keep the host/exec producer gig at TDS. But as of yet we haven’t heard anything concrete about contract negotiations etc. (Tbf, Jon & his very tiny inner circle keep things close to the chest as we only learnt he was coming back to TDS 3 weeks prior & we didn’t know about him doing a second year until the 28th October, a week before the election which was his originally scheduled last show) But there is enough spotlight on Late Night Shows atm that if anything remotely close to a shakeup was happening (either him leaving as host and/or exec producer) we'd have already heard about it. I hope anyway.
